Back and running again!!!

Well I’m back here again!! After 3 months on the IC I am running again. I fractured my ankle at the end of June and since then, I have been walking as much as possible ( since the boot came off) and doing lots of exercises and desperate to get back to running.

On Monday my daughter drove me to her work with her and I said I’d walk back along the Tarka Trail. “ it’s about 6 miles Mum, “ she said. ITS 8.65 MILES!!!! But it was a lovely walk, a bit drizzly in patches and I picked 3 lbs of blackberries and a huge bag of rose hips too on the way back BUT the best bit was...after I had been walking for about a mile J just felt I had the confidence to try Week 1 again. I had my running trainers on as I feel they support my feet nicely while I am walking so off I went very carefully at first. And I Loved it!!! It felt so good to be running again and funnily enough, 2nd time around I was “ oh is that 60 secs already?” Rather than the 1st time when I thought the minute was up after 18 seconds!!! Breathing was easy too and although I thought I’d been taking it really carefully and slowly , when I got home and checked against my first week 1 run 1, it was faster by quite a bit. And no ill effects later or the next day.

Then things got in the way on Wednesday so it wasn’t until Thursday that I managed to go out again. However, I had downloaded all the Podcasts the night before in readiness, they play better like that and when I got to the end of the warm up ( wasn’t really listening to Laura at the beginning as I was trying to fit my phone back into my fitbelt) I realised that it was week 2 not week 1 run2. It seemed too late to faff about so I did week 2 run 1 instead.

The sky was a bit cloudy but the sun was really bright and the wind was blowing like mad, against me most of the way but again it was another brilliant run and I was on such a high when I came home.

My daughter used to run with me before I injured myself but she hasn’t run for 3 months either, through changing jobs etc, but she is now living with me for 6 months so.....tomorrow morning, come rain or shine we will BOTH be out there for week 2 run2. So excited!!!

I am nearly as excited as I was when I did 10k first. I have missed my running soooo much.

Thanks. I hurt my wrist when I fell too so couldn’t even knit or crochet, while I lay around. And even holding a book hurts, still does sometimes so it was doubly frustrating but now I’m back!! 😁

Oh this is a fabulous post. Massive well done to you!! I loved that although you’ve been on the IC you have noticed how much better you are the 2nd time around. (I was “ oh is that 60 secs already?” Rather than the 1st time when I thought the minute was up after 18 seconds!! 😁😁😍)! I think you’ve dealt with the frustration and time on the IC really well. And I hope there’s lots more of those happy, doing better than planned, runs ahead! Brilliant! Enjoy! ❤️
