haven’t been able to run for a long time, it worked wonders for me as I suffer with depression and anxiety. Various illnesses and operations have meant I’m not able to run as if yet. Tried a few weeks back but had to give up, Now have awful anxiety and aches and pains, GP put me on antidepressants which I do hate taking. Role on when I can get back to it. Your posts help a lot, thanks people,

So sorry about your health situation Agelesslass, I do remember you posting here around 6 months ago about your running, I certainly hope it won't be long before you can get back to running, so happy to know that these posts you read on this forum helps you a lot.

I’m sorry to hear about your health issues, and it must be frustrating knowing a run would really help but you’re not in a position to. Are you able to get out for a walk? Last year I was on the final run of the ct5k programme but suffered a huge anxiety attack which left me drained for months. When I felt up to it I decided to start walking and soon found myself out walking everyday covering around 3 miles. Months later I started ct5k again and managed to complete it this year and I haven’t looked back since - I hope you manage to get back out there as you obviously know the benefits to mind and body. Best of luck.

Thanks so much, you’ve certainly been through it , I will take your advice, I can walk just over a mile and that’s it, but will slowly build it up if I can. Heightened anxiety is a terrible thing, you don’t know what it’s like unless you’ve suffered it yourself. Thanks again 😃

You will find your fitness will build up with regular walking and I certainly noticed a difference second time round doing ct5k - it just felt more enjoyable (maybe because I knew what to expect) looking forward to seeing your posts of your journey 😊

I know exactly what it can be like from helping my partner when she's been a quivering wreck, unable even to speak to me.

Just getting beyond the four walls can be both daunting and beneficial.

sorry about your partner suffering this debilitating anxiety too, it’s such an awful feeling, I really hope she is Getty help with it. 🤞🤞

Sorry things are tough right now.

I would echo Dendev75 and suggest you start walking, Part of the psychological benefit of running is being out doors and (preferably) in nature. I would recommend a graded approach - you could walk C25K- gradually building up your mileage each day.

Sending you good wishes'

thanks for your reply Helenwheels, again advice will be taken, when I’m a bit stronger will build up my walking distance, at least I do live in quite a rural area. Thanks so much 😃

Hi there Agelesslass. So sorry to hear of your health troubles at the moment. I also suffer from anxiety and like you I found running a big stress buster. I had stopped due to a hip and knee pain and after almost 2 years off I have recently restarted couch 2 5k as my anxiety has been really bothering me in the last couple of months. I'm running 25 mins non stop now at a slow pace and really hope I can keep going . If you cannot run perhaps you could walk, swim or cycle. It's so hard to live in this awful state of anxiety and hard to motivate ourselves to move our bodies. I take an antidepressant also and have had to take a small increase in doseage which like you , I hate having to do but sometimes it's nessisary to feel a bit better. Keep us posted on your progress, this group is very supportive.

thank you Rungranny, anxiety is so debilitating, you never know when you’re going to have an attack, I know I would be better if I could run again. Well done you for getting back out there, I admire you, I certainly do 👏👏👏
