Last week I managed to get off the I Can't Motivate Myself Couch and went, as advised, out for just 15 minutes. I thought I'd start with 1.5 minutes running and 30 seconds walking - I did that and thought 'hey that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!' Two days later I thought I might try some 'jeffing' but I didn't really know what that was so I Googled it and realised that that was what I'd been doing - you learn something new every day. 🤣I thought I'd carry on doing this until I felt really comfortable and stronger. I read IannodaTruffe's post about doing this after graduating. However, I was fiddling with my phone (as you do) and opened up Nike Run Club. After reading so many of WillowandSola's posts ( I read and procrastinate a lot!) about NRC runs I thought I'd try one. I liked it!! It was called Need This Run, lasted 20 minutes with just Coach Bennett talking and motivating ( I like him too Willowandsola). Unfortunately I hadn't set up any music so I had to mess about setting Chris Rea up whilst running, but hey ho. I actually brought away a couple of tips - don't hunch your shoulders - I hadn't realised I was, and swing those arms - it felt better! I found Gone Fishing was not an ideal song to run to and was very happy when the beat picked up with Let's Dance. I'll need to spend more time setting all of this up - pace of music etc - but it's something new and might lead me out of the door a little more often and surely that's the point. I didn't stop when he told me to though because I wanted to round off my distance, so I managed 2.5k and I'm totally happy with that 😊

What kind of couch do you sometimes sit on?

There are a lot of NRC fans on here! I used their half marathon plan recently and it was super. I’ll definitely be continuing with the app and the lovely Coach B!

Really good luck with getting back into regular running again. I find when I’m in a routine of it being just something that I do regardless of whether I’m feeling it or not is the best way to keep myself going.

I wonder if Coach Bennett knows he has a large fan base! I think you're right - I saw someone else's post saying that they went out running on certain days of the week regardless of the weather and how they were feeling. Sounds quite sensible when you think about it! 🙄🙂

It's taken me longer than usual this time - I've not had a great year so I'm using this as a positive that I'm putting it behind me and looking to the future.

That's terrific, 59er ! I gotta check out NRC as I've been reading a lot about it here, too.

I use an app called AudioStep to speed up or slow down the tempo of songs so that they all have the same beats per minute (bpm). Most of the time the songs still sound good, too!

This sounds interesting! I always struggle with my pace and the audio. I really noticed it this time when the faster track came on. I'll take a look. Thanks!

Can you tell me where I can find the app? Thought I'd give it a try on my next run

It might only be available for Apple devices... Here's the UK link: apps.apple.com/gb/app/audio...

And here's the website of the developer: audioforge.net/

(I might need to write a review as I am actually quite happy with it...🤣)

Thank you very much! I don't have Apple which is probably why I couldn't find it. I'll give this a try and I look forward to reading your review

PS I've tried but it's not available to me on my android - oh well 🤷‍♀️ thanks anyway!

Oh, that's annoying! I wonder why they're not offering it for android...

Here might be an Android alternative: musicspeedchanger.com/

And some more: freeappsforme.com/apps-to-s...

Hi 59er, I like to run first thing, back to breakfast and cool down, shower and then I might sit on my relaxing couch, with a coffee, looking at the morning digest and reviewing my run. Have a good day.

I usually run first thing Chinkoflight but not possible this time. Actually it wasn't bad. I had fuelled up but made sure not to eat a good hour and a half before I went out. Perhaps this was why I enjoyed the run? First thing runs = I don't eat anything, maybe a banana!

RELAXING COUCH = hmmm, sounds like a good couch to sit on. I'll maybe give this one a try after my next run. Coffee too? Awww, go on then 😁

Oooo that sounds great, I really enjoy NRC runs, their own playlists are ok , most the tracks I don’t know so I stick to my own but the best is right. I’d forgotten Chris Rhea, good for a slow run I should think. Enjoy your runs, and jeffing is great, when I go too fast and wear myself out I’ll often jeff back 😀

Thanks for the mention too

I'm new to Coach Bennett and NRC and Jeffing = I wouldn't have tried any of these if I'd not been reading your posts! A change is as good as a rest plus it got me out there again which is the main thing so THANKS Willowandsola ! 😉

Just a little shout out that if you do a run on the NRC app today, you get a Ghost Runner hallowe’en badge! Just back from the “I need a run” 20 minute guided easy/recovery/conversational pace run with Coach B. I’d definitely recommend that one.
