I completed couch to 5 k after recovering from a heart operation 6 years ago. I have since been diagnosed with arrhythmia and suffered a knee injury. I will be 70 in a months time. Can I regain my fitness and get back to jogging, or should I call it a day.
can I still do it: I completed couch to 5 k... - Couch to 5K
can I still do it
I hope so! This is a conversation you really need to have with a real life medical professional to make sure it’s safe for you. Good luck!
It's great that you are wanting to run again !But your health professional is the only one who can advise you .
Unfortunately no one here can give you that advice.
Good luck !
A few years ago we had an 82 year old graduate, so age is not a defining factor, but if it is not wise to run, because of your medical conditions then it would be sensible to retire from running, as I have had to do at the age of 66.
Seek out advice from those who know you and your case history.
There is life after running.
Hello again!
I am still here! Still banging on about slow and steady!
Just looking at your previous few posts a few months ago... did you find that the runs were too much for you ?
If you have got the all clear from your doctor about starting this again, and they and you are confident that all is well, then...
You are certainly not too old and there is mor reason why you should not regain fitness or start to run again.
There are many, many folk returning to running after illness, injury, or just life and pandemic!
They repeat Couch to 5K, as a great way to begin again. I myself did it again in 2021/22... took me longer than nine weeks but, eventually re-Graduated!
Do get checked out and then post back here... we will be waiting!
Well done you!
PS
I did my first HM at 69
Age is no limit! Arthritic knees can be managed, and heart conditions can be managed too. Just get medical clearance and ease back in. My running friend did her first marathon at age 70, she had angina & dodgy knees. She got fit enough to come off her angina medication not long afterwards. So get advice, enjoy whatever you decide to do, and you'll be flying!
