Rain was bouncing of the ground this morning so this was the first time since starting c25k where I actually wondered... Do I even have shorts that still fit me? It's a bit of nuisance trying to keep track bottoms from ending up round your knees once they're soaked. There is one pair but hmmm... I think might be issues keeping them up even without being drenched. Maybe better to wait till the evening so coffee next on the agenda. Get half way through the cup checking posts on here then the clouds parted and sun beaming through the window so coffee gets abandoned and it's a race to get running gear on... I'm sure there are some stretches involved in that.
I've been running the same route for a while but most other areas I've walked around here have some rather steep hills and I don't feel ready yet to throw that in the mix though seeing pictures from some others runs has been wetting my appetite for it... Might make that a goal for graduation. Only a slight breeze today so all was well, pace and breathing felt fine, and allowed my mind to wonder looking across Strangford Lough with the light bouncing over the water surface. Once I got Laura with the "5mins left... You should be feeling tired"... I dunno if it was mental or physical but it all became tougher until the end - was just content at completing it. Maybe it was a bit of muscle fatigue after physio again, just one of those days.... Or was it that half cup of coffee before I rushed out (I'll try to avoid that next time anyway). Home, stretched, washed, glass of water... Yeah that became a tougher one but that's okay, didn't give up and another run under my belt.
A question on the stretching front... Everyone seems to have their own regime for what stretches and when. Do you prefer to stretch out after the run is over, wait until after the cool down walk, or a bit of both?

Thanks. Gravel and stone path where I run so grip isn't an issue even with the occasional leap or sidestepping to avoid puddles 🙂 maybe need to think trail shoes or something when I go more off track.
Congrats on getting out there and pushing through. As for “You should be feeling tired” , my response is “why would you say that?” That would finish me off for sure. Not the type of suggestion I need at that stage 😆. If I didn’t feel tired before, I do now!
For me, I do my walk home and then try to stretch as soon as I get in while I’m still warm. Not sure if that’s the right way but that’s worked for me. If I miss that window, I have a warm bath and stretch afterwards
Thank you. "You should be feeling tired" isn't exactly motivating but I started with Laura and seeing it through to the end with her then maybe it'll have to be something like eye of the tiger with 5 mins to go 😁Stretching thing had me curious, usually just the odd runner about but today was a few. When I was finishing 2 where stretching out while another just ran to his car to head off. I do mine when home where I've more things to lean against rather than fall into a hedge or something 😂
Yup, falling into a hedge is definitely not the way to go 😂. I’m lucky that I don’t drive so runs tend to end at home. If I’m on public transport or take a mini detour to the pub (it happens 😁), then I know about it the next day. That’s where the bath works to warm everything back up before a home stretch.
Week eight is: "You've got 5 minutes left to go. Really well done. You should feel tired by now. If not you could probably go faster next time…"
I'd have to check but I'm pretty sure previous ones used terms like: maybe or might be and keep pushing on.
Regardless, I'm not sure that was the issue rather than my mind just being happy to agree. Don't even remember it being said in run 1. Next run once she gets to saying 5 mins left I'll just shout La La La La for about 30 secs just to be sure 😁
Thanks. Usually 15 mins or so for me to walk back home then get mine done. Had observed some other runners doing theirs straight after a run so just being curious.
Well done you! Don’t be scared of the hills, tried one tonight and felt absolutely buzzing at the end of my run. Yes it was tough but the downhill run after felt so good!
Ta, it's not so much fear of the hill as fear of the damage I could do. Ongoing work with physio at the moment for old injury so if the hill doesn't kill me, she might 😬
A good run and one more ticked off, the last 5 minutes can feel tough I stretch while the kettle is on for the after run tea, possibly should do them straight after but works for me and after the tea i soak in a hot bath 😀
It's not just Laura. Sarah had the same effect on me! Think it is partly (mainly) psychological. Stretching to be honest I haven't done anything except the walks at the beginning and end but I do go to a weekly Pilates class.
I stretch out after the cool down walk is complete. I don't do it before I start as I have always just come back from walking the dog and feel I am suitability warmed up.
Lol I remember scrabbling around and wearing all sorts! I drew the line at my padded bottom cycle shorts though 🤣. No-one needs to see that swinging up the road. Well done on a great run. I try to stretch as soon as I get home, and then again later in the day. Best of luck with your next run! 😊
