The week went well. Probably a bit harder than I expected but then again, I've been working a mix of day and night shifts at work so I think my body is just a bit tired. I was extra careful with my footing and tried to be mindful of what I was doing. It worked. On today's final run of week four I found that I could take in my surroundings a bit more. I think that I really focus on the podcast and Lara's instructions (or songs) but it seems more enjoyable when I let go a bit more and take in my environment. I am happy to use the podcast, no doubt about that and I certainly need it. But I am also looking forward to the time when I might just be able to lace up and go out the door for enjoyment's sake.....not worrying about time or distance. For now, that's a bit far away; I'm not there yet and building up this foundation is important in order to get there- but it's something to look forward to. As for week 5- if I'm honest, I'm apprehensive and a bit skeptical- wondering if I can actually do it. But I'm telling myself there's no reason to doubt. Another part of me is pretty excited about the challenge- so I'll just focus on that!!!!
Have good runs and stay safe, everyone.

Well done. If you use the app you get all the information and guidance, but it is up to you whether you listen to music or not.
I used to give myself a running commentary on everything that I could see, hear, feel and smell as I ran, in full florid sentences. It made a good distraction from thinking about time or the physicality of running.
Perhaps now that the intervals will be getting longer, I can relax a bit more. It's true that with the app I am more focused on what's coming up and how much longer I have. If I can let that go a bit by focussing on the environment, it will help...I think. I'll give it a try next week. Thank you and have a good weekend.
I never dreamt in week 1 I would be able to run 8 minutes never mind 20 but today the first time running since I was a small child I did it, ( now 51) so I know you can. Good luck on your journey
W5R1 went great! I even started to enjoy it and found it went by quicker and easier than I anticipated. I'm now looking forward to run 2- on thursday if I feel up to it after finishing 2 night shifts- or else friday...
Week 5 Run 1 was one of my favourites in the programme. W4R3 had been horrible, mainly due to the weather (a fine humid drizzle between downpours), but the summer morning I did W5R1 was cool and bright, and refreshing.
well...see...we're almost siblings! practically the same age, almost at the same point in our running program! yes, i need a good sleep tonight having been up since 4 am (it's now 21h30) and tomorrow will be a great day, with sunshine to boot! i'll let you know how it goes. take care
