First run after 20min run… hardest of all

Was so excited to do the 20min run for the first time on Saturday. I was on such a high afterwards. Today I did W6R1 and found it really hard going. Felt so demoralised. I thought it would get easier. My legs felt like lead and I struggled to breathe. Any tips before the next one?

Okies let's firstly rest up even extend that rest take an extra day, then hydrate seriously drink that water 2.5 litres everyday or more perhaps 3 litres.

Then next time out slow that pace down take it to a level you think is too slow! You'll smash it

Well done !It is not unusual for week 6 run 1 to catch people out .

We are always warning people about it on the forum .

Most feel invincible after completing the 20 minute run and set off too fast on week 6.

Take an extra rest day.

Take it really slowly and as already suggested, up that water intake to 2.5 to 3 litres a day , the heavy legs is a usual sign of dehydration.

This will become even more important as you get on to the longer runs from week 6 run 3 .

Enjoy the rest of the program !

I didn’t realise the heavy legs were from dehydration. Thanks I will definitely run slower and hydrate more before heading out again on Friday.

Well done on completing that 20 minute run! The first run of week 6 can catch people out, but don’t feel down about it - rest, hydrate, and take it slowly next time. Show it who’s boss on the next one! 😁

Thank you. I will be sure to hydrate and maybe take the next one a bit slower.

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

W6R1 catches out more people than any other run in the programme.

One twenty minute run does not a runner make.....

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

In hindsight, I think I got a bit ahead of myself. I was expecting it to be easier so think I probably tried to run faster than I should have. Will take an extra recovery day before Run 2. Thank you
