After a run whilst sitting at a desk - my calfs seem Swelled up or heavy feeling. I’m trying to drink more water and lots of stretching- would compression socks help?
Do you use compression socks: After a run whilst... - Couch to 5K
Do you use compression socks
Do you get up from your desk and move about for at least two minutes every half hour, as is recommended by many sources?
What daily footwear do you wear?
Our bodies have not evolved to sit around for hours on end. Can you use a standing desk?
Compression socks can help overworked calves, and aid recovery. You could also try massage or a foam roller.
Strengthening all your leg and core muscles is generally the long term solution to these sorts of issues. Running by itself will probably not be enough, so exercises, such as those linked to in the guide to the plan, are your best bet.
Thanks for the tips, they seem fine today - will do the extra bits of exercise and do more standing up. I’m at home so socks are my daily footwear.
I had this around week 3 or 4 (I’d have to check my posts) but my sister (sports therapist) released something in the side of my lower leg. Basically dug her fingers in and massaged. It stopped and I haven’t had any repeats of it. She said (and I paraphrase) some muscle that holds me upright was tight and needed to be released by stretching etc. This is not medical advice, but worth looking at. As Iannodatruffe says, a foam roller may do the trick.
Seems ok for my run today but thanks for the tip. you’re lucky! Wish I had a massage sister! 😁
