Compression socks

Hi Everyone

Just wondering if anyone wears compression socks and their thoughts or advice on them. My legs get tired so I slow my pace. At night my legs get a bit restless and I use a cooling menthol lotion which helps at night.

Many thanks

Yes - I use them all the time. I did a 38Klm run/walk this past Sunday and wore a double layer of compression. Long compression socks with a calf sheaf over them :)

I’ve seen the calf sheafs you mention. I think I shall give them a try. I want to keep my legs and the circulation healthy. Many thanks Bazza. Payday is next week. 👍🏻

I wear them for 5k+ runs since I tweaked a calf muscle unexpectedly soon after I tried increasing distance beyond 5k using Ju-Ju's magic plan on the B210K forum. They seem to work ….. no repetition of the problem. But it was nothing to do with tiredness - it's muscle stiffness they help me with.

As a nurse I am on my feet for a long time and then go running so my legs get tired and then the calf muscles get stiff and tense no matter how I try to relax into the run. I think I will invest in pair. 👍🏻

I admire nurses. Thank you for the job you do. The system seems broken, but the nursing staff who looked after me when I had my wrist plated were truely wonderful despite.

Thanks Baddie. How nice of you to say so. Us nurses keep going through the bureaucratic bull shit. 🙂

I noticed that. They should have matron running the ward like in the old days, not bureaucrats.

We have a matron but we very really see her and our ward manager is pretty crap.

I had a calf strain when trying to increase my distance from 5 to 10K which resulted in my having to rest up for a couple of weeks, this dented my progression and my confidence. I tried compression socks and to my relief they seem to have done the job, I don’t run without wearing them now and so far so good.

Jury is out... some folk find them wonderful others not...Medical opinion and research is interesting to read to. E,g.

Interesting. I can see how compression socks help with the circulation in the legs and may offer support for the legs. I don’t want to run any faster but to run a bit more comfortably.

I thought of buying some in a running shop..but the owner persuaded me not to! Her husband also a runner.and an senior Orthopaedic surgeon !!told her they make no difference!..

As we get older the valves that stop the back flow of blood and fluids tend to weaken. This can cause a build up of fluid in the legs. Compression to the legs helps these valves to close preventing circulatory problems. They won’t work for everyone, granted. If the placebo effect works then why not.

I think a placebo is great..if it works for folk...go for it..:) At my age..I count my blessings and my runs...!

I’m loving running and I stretch my muscles, I just want to feel comfortable running. Calf muscles can still feel tight.

They can.. a massage stick is excellent for that..and the post run stretches with calf exercises thrown in are also essential... plus..a deep sports massage of the calves works wonders ..Exquisite pain but well worth it...

I recently observed Dopplers being done on an air hostess who was the same age as myself. She is on her feet for a long time as I am. So I compared my legs to hers and they were similar which made me think about my own leg health. Payday is next week so I might try them out.
