I want to carry on using the nhs choices app but Laura decided she didn't want to work again today and it is very annoying when it is the 3rd run from the end of the podcast. Also I would like to try and use my fitness pal but I don't know how to use it properly. Does anyone else use myfitnesspal?
I would appreciate any advice! Toni

I had problems with the App. Downloaded the podcast so it is still Laura and there is background music too. There is a button on the home page and u can download them all ready to use as u need them
I think it's £2.99 for the full app but parts of it are free. I use my fitness pal too and started them both together 2 weeks ago and lost 3lb in the first week (then went on holiday last week and put on 1lb!). My fitness pal is easy you can scan barcodes in and it'll come up with the calories of the product or it'll search to find the produce if u don't have the bar code. once you add your details height, weight etc and how much you wish to lose it calculates how many calories you can consume per day for a sustained weight loss. I'm relatively new to it myself but I like it so far!
The only thing that I don't like is that the 2 apps don't link so the calories burnt during running doesn't automatically register on my fitness pal. I know it's not the end of the world to do it yourself but I think you can get an app that does sync with my fitness pal
You - may find this of interest someoneischasingme.
I use another Under Armour App called Map My Walk. This synchronises with My Fitness Pal for the purposes of recording calories burnt from a wide range of activities - not just walking. So, when I run the C25K app, I run Map My Walk as well. Although I have not investigated it yet, you can log food in Map My Walk. As far as I can see you do not have the bar code recognition facility of My Fitness Pal but I could probably live with that to have everything in one place. It probably depends on what your priorities are. For me I am more interested in keeping on top of the activity rather than the eating.
I am a keen walker and run a further app called View Ranger but Map My Walk could even replace that as well - good news for the battery on my phone possibly.
As with any app it is a one size fits all approach and as good as Map My Walk is - it is not perfect. There are times when I know in my heart of hearts it has overstated the calories burnt.
Ooh thanks for this! I downloaded the app last night and it syncs to my fitness pal which I like. Will see how I get on. I've been running every morning then taking kids and hubby for a long walk after tea but using my hubby's iPhone 6 to see how far we have walked then Converting it to calories! This might make it easier!! 😊
I didn't particulatly like running with either the app or podcast (sorry Laura, being talked through it was not my thing). After the first few runs, I took the programme timings off the NHS Choices website and set them up as interval runs in the Runkeeper application.
Hi Toni! I gave up on Laura too, but it was because I couldn't stand the music. I swapped to the Active app, which lets you listen to your own playlist and prompts you for the warm up, runs, walks and cool down. One thing to look out for is that one of the runs in the last couple of weeks is slightly shorter than on the NHS app (I think it's the last run of week 7). active.com/mobile/couch-to-...
Like mfamilias I also have the active app - largely because the reviews were more favourable than the NHS freebie - it is fine. I can also see where coddfish is coming from. I will see it through to the end with the app but can't wait for graduation day. I just cannot get on with wearing a phone and earphones but I need the app for the discipline it imposes. I am likely to do something foolish otherwise.
Thank you everyone for your input. I will have a look at a few of the apps that you all have suggested. I haven't got a lot of space left on my phone so if 1 app can do all or most of the things I need I would rather go with that one.
I have spent some time playing around with myfitness pal and I actually quite like it. The barcode scan thing is pretty cool. The only thing that is a massive let down is that the c25k app doesn't link up with it so you have to manually put in the exercise you have done.
Apparently I burnt 469 calories today through my run this morning and walking. i am actually quite pleased with that. Not sure if that's good but sounds good to me.
