I am looking into compression socks for running. I don't have a problem while running but I am looking into preventive measures so I don't get injured while running. I am the most clumsy person yoy can ever meet and knowing me I wouldn't be surprised I fall and dislocate a knee!!! Just wanted to know if you wear them, does it make any difference or just any sock will do? Thank you!!!
You actually have two questions there. Running socks and compression socks can be two different things. I use running socks, rather than any old socks. I find my feet like them better, I am less prone to blisters and my feet just feel nicer in them. There are a variety of different running socks and prices but in my opinion well worth a try. Compression socks are another sort of running sock and are in a category of their own. As far as I know they compress the muscles slightly and that helps with the healing, someone might have a more technical description. I use them after a long run. I always have a pair to put on after my HM and I am sure it helps to make a difference to recovery, sometimes I will use them if my legs feel particularly tired after a run, I will have a bath and put my compression socks on. They do help your muscles and some like wearing them on a run,I just never got on with that I didn’t like the compressed feeling, they are also good to double up as flight socks too. 😀.
I wore my flight socks as they are pretty much the same thing but I cut the feet off and wore running socks ! It helped me when I was getting over a calf sprain. I like them and apparently they help bring the circulation back to your heart quicker.
I first tried compression socks when running following a calf strain, I found it supported my calf muscle and gave me the confidence to start up again. Now I wouldn’t run without them. I think about 50% of folk at my local park run use either the full compression socks or the ones that just cover the lower leg but not feet. Guess it’s individual choice.
