Park Run

I may be getting ahead of myself (๐Ÿ˜‚) but Iโ€™ve registered for Park Run in the hope that it will soon start up again. Does anyone have any info? Tonight is week 9 run 3 so Iโ€™m hoping to graduate and thought park run would be a nice thing to do. Whilst I can slow jog Japanese style for 30 mins, I am nowhere near 5K so I still have a lot of improving to do - I feel as if I have a speed inhibitor on my heart ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿคฃ

I don't think you are getting ahead of yourself at all .It's great that you have registered for parkrun !

But first, Enjoy your graduation run ! ๐Ÿ˜

After which you can claim your Graduate badge here โฌ‡๏ธ

Then check out the consolidation club which includes a plan to get to 5K ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘โฌ‡๏ธ

Don't worry. Some long term graduates here still can't do 5km in 30 minutes, but that doesn't stop them running marathons.

If you're in England, the currently expected date for resumption of parkruns is 24 July. If it goes ahead, it'll be my first too. I've had the barcode cards since April!

That's fine, you will see people sprinting, jogging, run/walking and walking at parkrun, you don't need to run all of it.

Thank you. Yes itโ€™s all about movement for me, not speed. I will be doing a mixture of all of those things!!! And having fun too

That's the spirit, parkrun is meant to be fun, at least I think it is. Enjoy, and let us know how it goes xx

I've said this before on this forum - speed is overrated: duration is where it's at! I've been running regularly for over two years and I still can't run 5k in under 30 minutes, probably never will. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ I'm 61 and can run a half marathon though. ๐Ÿ’ช

As for getting ahead of yourself with parkrun, I registered in January - how's that for wishful thinking!๐Ÿ˜Š I did it for two reasons. Firstly to remind myself that there would be 'normal' again even while I was struggling. Secondly because I wanted to buy an identity band. After some publicity about another runner having an accident and nobody being able to identify him (๐Ÿ˜”), I realised that that could well be me. I don't run with a phone, just a watch and headphones.

Best wishes, and I look forward to sharing parkrun stories soon!

Thanks so much for your reply. Top tip about the identity band - is this as well as the Q code badge with your emergency contact on? Iโ€™m beginning to realise that itโ€™s much better for me at 65 to be running slowly. I have two replacement hips and a cage in my neck so slow and steady definitely wins the race!! Itโ€™s tricky to lose the competitive streak!

Good on you, GPP. You keep going! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

The id band has the parkrun code, any health problems/medication etc and an emergency contact. It was the emergency contact I needed, but it's set me up mentally for parkrun.

I'd advise everyone to have something on them. The story I heard was about a runner in Swindon who got knocked down by a car. The only thing he had on him was a front door key. ๐Ÿ˜”

Oh crikey โ€ฆ. How awful. Right, thanks for that, Iโ€™ll get a wrist band for sure. Iโ€™m excited to join in, although Iโ€™ll be keeping up the rear at all times!
