First run today at 61 years had a hip replacement last September and an arthritic foot on left so being very cautious but felt exhilarated afterwards . The run is more like extra fast walking type jog .. really concentrated on my breathing

Well done you for starting good luck with your journey, no bad thing going slow !

I started in my 60s as well and I definitely found that running slowly at first was the key to making it work for me. When I started I hadn't run for many years and I had no way of knowing how quickly or slowly I should be going and I really found it hard work - but when I slowed right down, I found I could run (although it was more like a loping jog!) for a much greater distance than I thought possible. Once I'd got the principle of slow in my head and could run for 20 minutes or so, I gradually increased the speed a bit at a time. Take it slowly, I'm sure you'll get there. The very best of luck.

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi Garden59 well done for completing your first run today. I will be 58 soon and have been lucky enough to have had 2 hip replacements, one each side, in 2018/19. I say lucky because I know there are massive waiting lists for surgery due to covid. I never thought I would be able to run again. It’s a great feeling, I completed W6R2 today. If I can do it anyone can, good luck with your progress 😊Just take your time and go at your own pace👍
