I’m new here

Hello! I’m new and have just done my very first couch to 5 k (day 1). I work in an office with three great ladies and we’ve all challenged ourselves to run the Race for Life in our area next year. A couple are already on their second week so thought as I’ve got the day off I’ll start my first week. It rained, I got soaked through to the skin but I did it and I feel fab! Saturday is looking good for my second day.

Any advice anyone has for wet weather runs will be gratefully received! Xx

Great for getting started. As for the rain I just get wet not advice but once your wet your wet right. Just go slow and drink lots of water per day and not just on run days.

C25k is an amazing plan and really does work you'll get lots of encouragement and support on here good luck 😊

Congratulations on starting C25K!

As for getting wet, some people wear a baseball hat to keep the rain off their faces and i’d advise stuffing your trainers with newspaper when you get home and leaving it in until your next run to soak up the moisture.

Well done on getting out in the rain. I was told ‘if you can run in rain, you can run in anything’ 👍🏼

Welcome welcome! This site is great for tips and tricks and encouragement. Congrats on starting and having a goal!

Unfortunately no advice for the wet, I'm like Buddy I just go and get wet.

I do wear a baseball cap to keep the water away from my eyes/glasses and one of those sporty bandanna all purpose things (headband, wristband, hair tie, neck warmer) round my neck to keep it warm but otherwise have to strip off the minute I get home :D

You will reach a stage where wet can be somehow good as it's cooling. It only goes skin deep then has to stop. Do avoid any wooden surfaces though as could be very slippery. Well done and enjoy.

Well I've just spent 35 mins on a treadmill in the gym, and with no breeze or rain to cool me down - well I bet my T-shirt is as wet as yours! And it's mingin'. Sorry that was probably TMI!

Thanks Ian, I now have visions!!!

Add to that the following vision. My next goal is to be able to run without it looking like I need a sports bra!! The treadmill with a mirror in front is devastating for revealing floppiness!

I felt really good after running in the rain, definately a lot cooler! Well done for starting and keep it simple, water, good shoes and stretching, stretching, stretching! Keep going 😁

in reply to Smelliepoo

Thank you and yes, I made the rookie mistake of completely forgetting to stretch and now my thighs feel like wood!!!

Oops! Just warm them up a bit, keep moving and then stretch today, and stretch lots! Maybe some yoga? You may even feel better by your next run! Your worst enemy now is keeping too still, as it will only keep your muscles siezed up. X

This is the UK. If you can't run in the rain, you can't run. 😄

Choosing clothing that can take water without getting heavy or sticky is the only real advice I have. At this time of the year we are in warm and wet, but later we will get cold and wet - then you will need a windproof jacket, but most of all water-resistant gloves. I need a peaked cap, 'cos of the glasses.

Welcome to the runners!👏🙏❤👣👣👣👣👣👣👣

I prefer not to run in the rain so I check the forecast for the week and plan my runs around it. I have been running 3 times a week since March and have only got wet once. My luck might not hold much longer with winter coming!
