Hey Folks,
I graduated on the 24th April. I was on the highest speed 8:36 I could be, 43 mins for 5 Km. I went on runs every other day. Morning and evenings and afternoon. I was on a run high. Anytime was a good time for me from being I am not a runner to graduating.
On one run, I saw a puddle and pot hole so I decided to leap off, and knowing problems I have muscular pains, hyper mobility and fibromyalgia. I had to make sure I was avoiding that. So in this attempt, I thought I was doing good, but when I landed, I heard a twang noise from my left knee. I won’t call myself perfect, but that was noise I was familiar with, but carried on home, for what I knew was coming, slight discomfort.
My advice to anyone who sees a pot hole don’t leap make your leg shorter movements- smaller strides.
Even though, I avoided the issue I wanted to, I made it worse. It hurt where I have never felt the pain: in the hamstring, buttocks and joints connected. I always twist my knee or have cramps but hamstrings I was not expecting. Being very careful, I stopped running or walking as the pain was very sharp and something new to me. So I just went down to walking to and from work and I am always on my leg at my work, so 15000 steps is easy. But No runs for 2 weeks now feeling anxious. I started looking up sports injuries in YouTube for physios that I can do putting heat packs which was wrong was supposed to be cold packs and testing myself and calling 111 after one week and waiting for 3 hrs in A and E they told me to have paracetamol and ibuprofen.
So, yesterday was my decision to start my Couch to 5K day 1, properly one more time. There was no pain but I could feel the discomfort I had in my buttocks.
I had gone better, over 9 weeks and was in my best form.
I don’t know if it is too early after an injury but 15 days on I just wanted to go back but made sure I was doing as someone starting fresh. But my legs were leaping. I was forcing myself to make short-leg movements. I had some discomfort which helped to keep me aware but when done my legs were feeling better and today morning no unnecessary pain, that I was dreading. But a little discomfort in the buttocks.
Sorry for the long post, any advice will be appreciated.
Never give up.... keep moving is my best advice I can give. And make sensible choice. As I made one but got another problem, which I had never experienced and overcoming that just making sure I am not injuring it again as saw posts on net saying don’t run for 6 weeks🤯🤯
