Grrr...😬 spent whole day at my lovely local hospital getting home just now! What I thought was a calf muscle strain after last nights footy session has turned out to be more serious, on crutches now with a torn ‘gastrocnemius’ muscle... (had to Google that one!), good news is scans show tendons and achilles still intact so taking positives where I can!
Would have left it a strain (being a stubborn northerner🤷🏽♂️) if not for my ‘DodgyTicker’ team mate pestering me to call 111 as a precaution!! (Thank you Dave!👏👏)
Sadly this puts paid to all the hard earned gains on this C25K program last few weeks and will need some new motivation to start over again (whenever that is)🙁
Can’t believe where open heart surgery didn’t a flippin calf muscle has sidelined me! Still one silver lining I learnt a new word which I thought more to do with posh pub food than anatomy😆... finally big shout out to OUR amazing NHS, where would we be without them? 🤲🏼❤️💙

Absolutely. Going to get a call next week to discuss recovery plan including physiotherapy... suppose next time I can truly go from ‘couch’ as oppose to operating table to 5k!😉
Will do. Have already started researching DIY physiotherapy on YouTube, pleasantly surprised to find lots of helpful advice on there from physio’s to encourage muscle recovery... 😊
Thank you. I hope so too... will do all I can to stimulate quick recovery, after that just going to chill and make most of these enforced rest days!! 😁
UPDATE👨⚕️Week on follow up with Consultant has revealed a 8cm x 1cm tear to my calf muscle, that explains the ongoing ouch! 😬 This means I’m definitely OUT for ‘at least’ 3 more weeks before being able to resume low impact exercise. Disappointing as I was hoping for a quicker recovery but taking small mercy’s grateful injury is not more serious.
So, enforced rest period continues and wonder for how long I’ll be able to run when I do return eventually after 4+ weeks off... 🏃🏽in my ‘running’ shoes, where would you start back on the C25K program? Answers on a postcard please! 😁
Thank you for your kind message. Made good progress last few weeks with recovery and hoping to be back training again in another few weeks. Sorry to hear work’s been exhausting... work life balance is key, do take time out for yourself!
Good morning Quadro!I am so glad you making good progress! In Restaurant work, kitchen porter, work/life balance, is difficult! Many of my colleagues, Chefs and Front of House Staff, work 10 to 12 hours per day on their shifts!
Working in hospitality can be tough!
I am part time, 28-32 hours per week!
Because of vascular disease in my legs Quadro, standing or walking at work, sweeping, mopping, washing up all sorts, scrubbing, setting up kitchen early morning from 7-10 am, filtering oil and cleaning fryers as well, there's a lot to do!
I feel my age!
But Vaccination on 9 May has set me back as well, made me very tired afterwards! 4 days later I tripped on the stairs and hurt my coccyx and shoulders, another setback!
Despite pain went to work as understaffed, Paracetamol had to help! It's better now!!!
Life for now is challenging!
Lockdown, admit, didn't make me stronger! I find it hard to exercise after shifts, as mega tired and legs feel heavy Quadro!
Wow! Gastrocnemius is a big muscle! That must have hurt a lot! Well good luck with your recovery and I’m sure you won’t need to start from the very beginning! Keep posting on your recovery!
Oh that’s pants QuadroVEINia ...but...slow and steady progress after a good old rest and you’ll be back to your usual self....hats off to our fantastic NHS
Sorry to hear you’re on the IC. A big well done to your mate Dave. I tried learning the cello when I was on the IC for a while. You could give that a go? 🎻🎼 Totally agree with you re our NHS 💙
You seem to have more faith in my potential for a hidden musical talent than I do! Can confirm already started on acquiring a new skill, how to play Chess! Keeping me engaged and luckily easier on the ears of my cat and neighbours!!😁
