Ego back out of the bag

Sometimes it’s horrible being a bloke. Was just coming to the end of my 5 minutes warm up walk when my next door neighbour came out of a side street into the park I run around. Wk 9 R1. Of course I just had to run a little faster with better form because my ego made me do it for fear of looking like a Dork. It normally takes me 5 minutes to run round the park before I head out down by the railway. Probably did that part in 3 mins so therefore by the end of the 28 minutes I was blowing really really hard. Could I have had a conversation NO. Couldn’t have even rang an ambulance. I suppose one good thing that came out of this , because I had to change the route slightly, when I finished I was still some distance from home. Map My Run clocked me walking and running 5.02K at 42.32 minutes. So at least I have a goal for the future after consolidation. I’ve chastised my ego and put it back where it belongs. As I enter into week 9 I am very excited and still blown away by everyone’s support and posts on here. Keep posting and I’ll be one who keeps reading.

You've learned something today.

There is a massive temptation to speed up when you see other runners or people you know. The little devil sits on your shoulder and mutters "You look like an idiot. You need to look like a proper runner." It's wrong, of course.

Thank you. I agree, I did learn a good lesson today.

😂 thanks for admitting to this. Unfortunately being female doesn't make us 100% immune to this. I have to use every ounce of willpower to not scupper my run when there are potential observers around.

Engaging my pigheadedness seems to help with that a little.

Good work, you're doing well 👍🏼

Pigheadedness lol. Love it. Do they sell that in Waitrose?👀

Pigheadedness is a very useful trait for a runner! I'm off to Waitrose...

Good luck for Week 9, you'll smash it! xxx

Brilliant post!😆

Well done on your running and you’re not alone wrestling your ego... I think most of us blokes live with that occasional demon if we’re honest... I deliberately zone ‘out’ on my runs so as not to let my ego get distracted by what others are doing, might even come off a bit odd but hey gets me through my runs nice and steady!! 🤷🏽‍♂️

Thanks Quadro - I’m learning to zone out but I do like to put my hand up to acknowledge others. My music is so loud I am not sure what I sound like when I say hello.
