I’ve always been active but never been a good runner and have no stamina I decided to do couch to 5k because I’ve become lazy due to COVID.

I’ve been doing good and have been proud I’ve stuck at it it’s been hard but not impossible however that changed today I’ve never struggled so much and now I’m dreading the rest of it anyone got any advice ?

In what way did you struggle?

Surprisingly it was harder on my muscles rather than being out of breath (even though I was definitely out of breath at the end) but it was my calves and quads that were burning

We all have bad days! Could be any number of reasons; with the rise in temperature hydration could be an issue. I had a disappointing run yesterday and have been drinking solidly ever since. My main point is, some days it just doesn’t happen; forget it and move on.👍

But you completed W4R1? In which case you know you can do it. As Beachcomber66 says, some days are just tougher than others. Perhaps you were dehydrated, tired from other things going on in your life etc. Sometimes the new things we're asking our legs to do catches up with us and an extra day of rest helps. But it sounds like you completed the run although you found it hard? If so, congratulations - that refusal to give in will get you through a lot, and although this run was hard today, in a few weeks time you'll be thinking 'only 5 mins to go!' (believe us, it amazes us all!).

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

Follow the link in the guide to the plan to the post about mental approach........it may help.

If any run is tough, just slow down.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.
