Volcano and The Northern Lights
That is a lovely photo AlMorr
Great picture Al Thanks for posting π
I have been to Iceland many years ago now , when I came out of the airport it was like I'd landed on the moon π
Nice pic, Al.
Clever way you sneaked it onto the running forum.
That would be really something. Thanks! π
That is a fantastic image! I doubt if Iβd be able to run anywhere if I saw that, I would be completely mesmerised by the sight.
There used to be a parkrun in Reykjavik in Iceland, unfortunately there weren't enough runners who took part and sadly the organisers had to stop the runs.
What a shame! Perhaps there will be more interest now.
The parkrun route is still there though, my sister and I ran it last year. Itβs lovely.
It's a pity that more people could not take part, perhaps if they had a publicity promotion of parkruns in other countries they could restart parkrun in Reykjavik on that former parkrun route that you and your sister ran last year.
I have a feeling they only did it for eight months of the year. During winter they couldn't run Parkrun in the snow. I think it might have been an issue that people couldn't make it a regular thing, and sometimes during the eight months they'd have to cancel anyway.
It's not so much running in the snow, many people in other countries run parkruns in the snow, but the sun in Iceland in the morning doesn't rise from November until mid-February until after 10 am, doing a parkrun in the dark isn't advisable but they could run during those dark months at a later start time.
That does look fantastic. I have just seen a picture of the sunrise at Scarborough this morning on Look North weather section. Now wish I'd got out of my bed when the alarm went off rather than 30 mins later. Next time π
Glad that you think that photograph is fantastic, it would certainly be a fantastic site if any runner in the UK saw the Northern Lights when they were out running late at night.
Mr Magellan was meant to be there this week with his GCSE and A Level sets. Weβve been to Iceland many times, heβs seen the Aurora once, I never have, and neither of us have seen an eruption. Heβs known for a while that his trip would be cancelled but I donβt think thatβs a consolation for him!
Amazing photo. I've seen the Northern Lights in Norway twice. Imagine running there!!
That is so beautiful
Stunning pic! I would love to run with those colours above my head!
Iβve actually been to Iceland to see those Northern Lights. I found myself on the top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night. It was absolutely freezing π₯Ά and I did find myself thinking βWhat on earth am I doing here?β We had to wait for nearly an hour but when they came they were just amazing and lasted for ages. Such a special experience ππ².Couldnβt imagine running there though. It was way too cold and I had way too many layers on π₯Άπ₯Ά
That's an amazing image, Al. It would be something to be running there, at a very safe distance of course! Have you ever seen the northern lights where you are? My friend on the east coast of Scotland does every so often, she has some truly beautiful pictures π
No, I have never seen the northern lights, they have been seen from where I live but I keep missing them.
I hope you get to see them soon. My friend checks this website to monitor the chances of seeing the aurora borealis: aurorawatch.lancs.ac.uk/
Fantastic pic, but rather sadly most people will only ever get to see the local branch of Iceland with the light f the North Circular! Thanks for the pic, and one day I WILL get there.
I'll tell you a little secret newbie-nick, since the lockdown began I do my weekly shopping at Iceland, not the country, I used to go to "every little helps" but the Iceland store is nearer.
I believe that they are much better regarding certain ethical and environmental standards too... but I shall use my local village shops where they sell locally produced food that is in season. I love the shop, and if I/we don't use them, they will go the way of so many others. We are an unusual village in that we have a butcher, a baker and a candlestick maker - OK, the last one is now an osteopath or similar, but the name is still over the door!
Lovely! I agree that running with that view would be something really special. Thanks for sharing.
I've seen the northern lights in East Anglia! But they were very faint. I've also been on a month long camping trip to Hawaii with my mum, sister and baby niece (at the time she's now 18). We walked out onto a fresh lava flow at night to watch the lava flow into the sea. It was awesome and very noisy even from a safe distance. Funnily enough, the only other person I remember seeing that night was a man out trail running.
Thanks for the post, I love looking at volcanoes. Although I'm aware that living near them is very precarious.
Wow what an amazing photograph Al thank you for sharing. Have a lovely day
Wow yes, imagine that!!!!!!! πππ
A bit too dangerous to run around a volcano although some "brave" people climb up them, it would be lovely running anywhere that the Aurora was showing in the northern sky. π.
That is without doubt a spectacular show of nature. Wonderful π
Wouldnβt it be amazing to see that whilst out running, Iβd love to see the Northern Lights π
Iceland is definitely on my list for when we can travel again, this would be amazing. I've read that volcanic action is expected to continue for ages, so maybe...just maybe...
Just read about that photo. It was taken by the person on their birthday π±
