Repeating runs?

Hi,

Just finished W5R3 with not too much bother but heart rate steadily increasing - that'll come down in time... Wasn't breathing heavily/panting and legs are fine...

Just wondering if I should repeat that run before W6R1?

Is adding an extra session in (keeping the 1 day gap) or doing an extra interval on the end a good, bad or indifferent plan?

Thanks

Well done.

There is no problem repeating any run.....every run makes you stronger. Whether you repeat or not is up to you, but if you completed then the plan has prepared you for the next run, which by the way catches out more people than any other run in the plan, so stay nice and slow.

The plan as written works for most, while keeping injury risk minimal. By adding your own intervals on the end you are going off piste.......why take the risk. The progression is carefully considered and works.

We always say, stick to the plan.

Thanks. Just to be clear, are you saying that W6R1 or W6 as a whole is tricky? It seems to just be a bit more if W5, i.e. a 5 minute increment.

I didn't think that W5R3 would be that easy as I've just had my 'flu jab and was feeling a bit rough, so wanted to redo it but was interested as to whether that was a silly idea or not...

W6R1 catches people out.....it will be your longest workout to date.

There is nothing inherently difficult about it but many approach with a cavalier attitude believing they have cracked running after doing W5R3.

One twenty minute run does not a runner make...........nothing silly about repeating it.......or not........it is your choice.

Point taken ! 👍

Plus flu jabs can make some people a bit groggy for a day or two.

If you completed W5R3 with no bother, then you are fine to move onto W6R1. Take confidence from what you've done so and crack on. You're doing just fine. It's designed as a 9 week program so just carry on what you're doing.
