Repeating runs?

Should I go back a week?

I found W4 quite difficult :( but nonetheless, I managed to finish it! However, I was ill for a week and haven't been to run for that time. I just finished W5R1 and I found it extremely difficult, probably due to my week off and my body recovering from being ill. Should I repeat W4 to build up my fitness again, or should I repeat W5R1 until I'm comfortable with doing it and then move on?

Your body needs time to recover from illness so maybe just do a couple of 15-20 min walks for a week and then go back to where you were. Hope you’re feeling better soon.

Thanks for the advice! I think that I'll do what you suggested for a couple of days and see how I feel :)

You have done w5r1, so no need to repeat. But you might wish to take a couple of extra rest days before you run again, you are possibly not yet fully recovered.

Dont let those gremlins make you doubt yourself, you are doing great!

Thank you! I'll plan my next run for 3 days time :)

You could also try the Japanese slow jogging movement technique (there’s a short film on youtube). It’s low impact and really helped me turn my running into a pleasure! You can always work on pace later - but this changed everything for me.

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and explains that you lose next to no condition in the first two weeks of non running, although you may not be fully recovered.

You are in control, so do as you wish, but the structure is such that once you fully complete a session your body is prepared for the next one........... sometimes the brain is not. You might find the link in the guide to the post about mental approach helpful.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi! Thanks for the link! I seriously thought that if you rest for more than 3 days, you start to lose progress :) we learn something every day! I'm much more relieved now :)
