First afternoon run - Second 5K

I have only run in the morning (never too early) or after 6pm. It was still drizzy at 11am and after the downfall last night lots of puddles, I thought I would leave it til tomorrow, but then I got itchy feet and made the bold change to my routine and went out about 3pm. I went on one of my routes which I extended to the South of Tooting Common. I did not go on the Common as it was like Picadilly Circus with walking families and gazelles passing me on the way to that muddy petri dish.

There's a few more inclines on this route so I was 15 seconds slower (43'58") than last week. But all in all, newish route, different time of day and a second 5K/(not) parkrun and I carried on for another minute and a bit to complete a second 45 minutes.

I did more walking afterwards today, partly because Mrs R had gone out and locked the front door and because last week I got cramp 4 hours after my run due to sitting too long watching football and rugby! I did more stretches too and will take a walk to the shop later to ease out any tightness.

So my change in routine was a success and I can go for a decent walk with the family tomorrow. And a second sub 44 minute 5K.

Next week I hope to be faster and do 50 minutes as part of Ju Ju's Magic Plan to 60 minutes by February.

Keep on running everyone.

Well done! Did you experience any difference in how your body felt running at another hour than you are used too?

Not a lot. I think I was just pleased to be out there. I still prefer a pre breakfast run on a Saturday, even if I don't eat til 11 or 11:30.

...it’s good to mix it up though 👍

Well done 😄

Well done for running on Saturday in the inclement weather. I was crazy enough to go in the drizzle , getting soaked, skirting puddles and nearly falling on a muddy verge but got so near to the 5K at 42mins that I pushed on, making 43 mins.27. A minute longer than my best but the first one for a month. So sometimes when the conditions don't seem very favourable and you feel tempted not to bother, you get worthwhile gains.

It had stopped raining. And a lot have the bigger puddles had dried up. I think it was my reward for being patient and not being obsessive about "I have to leave before 11am." It's not as if we can go anywhere else!

I don't want to boast - if I had left 30 minutes earlier I would have been running into a blinding setting winter sun in Tropical Saarf London!
