Set off for my 20th consolidation run this morning feeling good if a little achy. Made sure I stretched properly after the warm up and before the run (for only the second time since I started running)...and promptly tweaked my hamstring. Ironic huh?
I stopped immediately and grabbed a coffee. I’ll get home and put some ice on it and rest until it’s better. I’ve had plenty of hamstring injuries playing football and I know it’s an injury you cannot rush. Hopefully it won’t be a bad one and I can get back out running asap. More than a little fed up as I was looking forward to a nice easy 5K and including a couple more inclines. Never mind, health and fitness is more important right now 😭😭😭

Tough. What sort of stretch did you do before you started running?
We advise that pre run stretches are dynamic and static stretches should only be employed post run , as per the guide to the plan, which also has links to the NHS Sports injuries pages.
Could you tell me more about this. I did static stretching because my friend who I ran with on Thursday advised me to. Not meaning to blame him but that seems to have been a mistake. I usually do the 5 minute walking warm up and haven’t really had any issues as a result of this thus far. The pre run stretching is definitely a no no for me.
As stated and linked to in the guide to the plan.Static stretches are for fully warmed up muscles only, so reserved for post run only. By using on cold muscles you can reduce potential power in the muscles and cause overstretching and injury.
Sorry to hear that. Totally depends on how you feel. I won’t even attempt to run until it feels 100%. I will be out for at least a week and probably longer.
