Well, that wasn't fun at all. Got out, got it done. 6km / 43mins / 7.12km average pace. Set out already regretting only wearing 2 thin layers but soon warmed up. New headband had my head in a vice like grip, I was hoping it would loosen off a bit as I ran (it didn't).. Thought I was going to expire as I went into 2km, just couldn't get my breath and my energy levels felt depleted. Even the 90's dance playlist I'd chosen hit a bum note with me today (note to self: 12" remastered version of Fat Boy Slim 'Rocker Fella Skank' is not for my running playlist) π£ π±
Must. Not. Stop.
Hit my stride a bit by 4km but by then, I was scaling this run back in my head to a 5km as my heart pounded in my chest and even above the music in my ears, I could've given Thomas the Tank Engine a run for his money with the volume of puff coming out of me. Great for scattering dawdling walkers though π πBy 5km, I felt better and pushed on with the proviso I would stop at any point if too much. Of course, I know what I'm like - I'd set this run as a 6km and I was going to make it to 6km so I powered on, picking my way over some pretty sharp stones and small rocks on the small uphill path up from the canal (I was cursing by this point, I'd misjudged my return run). So, 6km buzzed on my Garmin and it was done and a huge sense of relief!
Chalking that one up to experience. I really ought to take my own advice and prepare better. Last night I had a bad night's sleep, headache, took painkillers, dehydrated... I also lazed around this morning and went out later than I usually do and after breakfast...blabla. Not optimum conditions for me!
So, I had been thinking of officially moving over to Bridge to 10k but after that performance, I'm not sure I'm quite ready for it yet π

Donβt be too disheartened! You still got out there and completed another 6k even though it was tough and not the ideal conditions, still a big achievement π₯³ fingers crossed your next run is a nicer one π¦ππΌββοΈ
We all have good and bad days. Come on over to Bridge to 10k and you'll see. You'll get lots of sympathy, support on your bad days and congratulations on your good ones! I wouldn't have kept going without it.
Ummm, an interesting read on your run, sounds like my tue evening 5k, when i upped the pace a bit! π₯΅ your pace today was, for me anyway, very fast, might have contributed to the breathing probs π€ your bit about the sharp stones, by canal, made me chuckle π€£ had the same problem yesterday, causing some f'ing, not jeffing π€£ anyway, i guess our runs, will be a bit up and down, depending on what's going on, not sleeping, drinking, headaches, etc, but i just remember how new to it all i am, and still get so much satisfaction, at the end of a run!!! βΊ
You know what, I think you may be right about the pace. I was so excited to be out for a run (lol, if youβd have said Iβd be saying stuff like that back in early summer I wouldβve thought you were mad π) I was out of the blocks faster than usual, I KNEW I was faster and didnβt pull it back until the end of the first km when I started puffing and wondering what my HR was at that moment π¬ hmm... lessons learned (again)! You made me chuckle with your f****ng not jeffing π€£π€£π€£ that was me today!
Aww- Donβt be disheartened- I have had runs where Iβve been all pumped up- got up nice and early - fresh for a weekend run- no work to contend with and ready for a good distance and itβs been an absolute nightmare where I was exhausted within 7mins and every step I wanted to be over. It really knocked my confidence and I dreaded the next run and questioned if I had it in me to continue running at all but the next ones were absolutely fine. I think I just have to accept that some runs are going to be meh π look to the next one when youβre going to totally whoop that 6K - I need my gazelle buddies on Bridge 210k ! C Xxx
Ah thanks so much for your encouraging words π This was def a βmehβ run but I wonβt let it put me off my plan. A blip on the road to becoming a stronger runner!! I think it was literally 7mins into todayβs run I was thinking βthis is not going to happenβ but I gritted my teeth and pushed on and really it wasnβt so bad at the end, even if I did feel a bit sick with the exertion required. A few days rest and Iβll head out again ππ» And I will see you over in B210k!! x
Well done R4UL - sounds like a tough run but, as you said, your prep for it wasn't the best - so you did well to grit your teeth and get to the 6K (very impressive by my standards)! πͺππ¦
You had a pretty good pace there too - maybe you were going a bit too fast if you weren't 100%? A gentle run might've been better (even though I'm terrible at sticking to that advice - as you know - what a hypocrite I am π€£!!)
Yes, I'm certain I was out of the blocks way too fast which is what got me in trouble later into the run. We will all learn our lessons one day!! It's all still a learning curve though, we've come so far. Lots more to learn and experience to get π Just wish I wasn't so impatient!!!π¦π¦π¦
I didn't spot this post until now! Sounds like a challenging one. A solid 6k done though despite all the issues so well done on that ππ» one chalked up to experience, plus pointers on things to avoid for the next one ππ»
