Consolidation 21 - 6km!

Hello, you inspiring lot!

So this is my first post since Consolidation Run 13 which took place on the 27th of September!!

After completing a 5km on 29/09, I mixed up my runs a lot by doing a number of 30min, 4km and 2km runs and never really felt like doing a 5km until the 18th of October where I ran my slowest ever 5km which took 46:36 and a pace of 9'19"/km :D

I gave it a few days off and started to plan my next run using the 'measure distance' feature on google maps as I wanted to try and push myself in terms of distance so planned a 6km route and I'm chuffed to say that I did this yesterday! Still a bit slower than usual but the pace was every so slightly quicker than the run mentioned above. 6km took 55:39 and a pace of 9'16"/km

I'm going to continue to mix it up and I know that I can now add 6km in to the mix as I'm hopeful this will help bring my 5km time down.

Have a good weekend y'all :)

Speed isn’t the be all and end all. Slower runs are what builds legs, and it all takes time. Mixing things up is good, as us seeking out new routes. Keeps things fresh Be patient and you’ll achieve your running goals 💪👍🙂

That’s great Kish247. 👍🏻😄

I run at about that speed for 5k or more. Enjoying my running is my top priority, so I decided to think about distance / duration and let speed look after itself - even with that approach I am slowly becoming faster as my legs gain experience. 😄

Your mix up of different runs sounds perfect. 😄

Well done for your 6K, but running for 55 minutes is awesome! 👏👏👏👍It’s definitely those longer runs that build endurance. I go on a long run once a week. Often for 90 minutes, but occasionally for longer.

I rarely go out and run 5K! If it’s my intention to just ‘go out for a 30 minute run,’ then it’s 4K 😀. 4K is my friend. I can do that in 30 minutes on a good day. If I’m not at my best, I try for negative splits instead of a fast pace.

Eventually, I’ll have a look again at 5K, but for now I’m working on stamina and endurance by running slower for longer.

Thank you for the replies misswobble Elfe5 and Jools2020

I did another 6km on Sunday and got soaked from 3km and on Tuesday I decided to do a 5km run and smashed my previously 5km by being over 2 minutes quicker! Mixing it up really does work :)
