Yesterday I finished the coach to 5k which I have been completing religiously every second day since September .I've always envied runners but have been overweight and was concerned with the pressure of my knees . This and the fact I couldn't run the length of myself .After losing 34kg and doing a lot of cycling I decided to take the leap . I was just made redundant so might as well do something useful with my time I thought.
W1 R1 I struggled , even couldn't finish one of the 60 second runs . I persevered and read loads of tips from folk on the forums . The ones I really adhered you were
1. drinking loads of water day before and morning of runs and
2. religiously stretching after each run .
I set out yesterday well up for the run . It also coincided with one year off booze for me . I was going to follow the program but if there is anything left in the tank I was going to push for the 5k mark . I said to myself I would only do it if I was feeling good and wasn't pushing myself too much . The last thing I wanted was an injury after coming so far . Once I reached the 30 minutes mark , I think I was on 4.6k so I pushed on and reached 5k at 33 minutes . I was delighted and well proud of myself.
Im definitely going to continue on with running with my goals of a park run , 10k and hopefully Great North run next year .
Thanks for all the tips and good luck with everyone on their journey .

Well done, looks like you smashed that, even getting to 5k, very impressive pace, it's mad how we've all moved on from those early weeks, and how hard it was, so the journey continues!!! 😀
Very well done on your graduation. It feels great doesn't it. And a high five for your year of sobriety - that's got to be harder than couch to 5k!? In any event - bravo for both achievements.
Thanks Gail for your kind words . The pic is at Forth and Clyde Canal just north of Glasgow. Lucky to have it on my doorstep and perfect for flat runs !
Congratulations on your achievements, not only physically but emotionally and mentally. You're a real inspiration.
