All had been going well for me until I’d started doing the runs every second day (7 runs in 14 days rather than the 3 runs each week). That plus the increase in time spent running consistently meant I was laid up with a niggle in my knee since Tuesday.
By yesterday (Friday) evening I resigned myself to the fact that I would be delayed a few weeks, but I woke up this morning feeling ok (after a lot of ice-ing and resting yesterday evening).
I read a few people’s posts here this morning who are at the same or similar stages to me, which was endlessly motivating. So I strapped on a knee brace, did some dynamic stretches (thanks to this forum for that advice!) and said I’d give it a go to see if I could jog and if so how long for.
I’m delighted to say despite purposefully going as slowly as comfortable, I was able to jog easily, no pain, and ended up at just shy of 4km in the 28 minute run portion. Which isn’t far off normal!
Genuinely I’m so loving running now and was devastated thinking I’d be on the injury couch for a while!
Thanks to all you inspirational people - Those who’ve completed or those in the process. Helps so much to read other people’s posts!
Happy Bank Holiday weekend! 🙌🙌😊😊

Congratulations PH - glad to hear you completed that last week 8 run with no issues. I wondered where you’d gone as you’d overtaken me when you last posted. Fingers crossed 🤞both our bodies stay in one piece and let us graduate in style 👍💪
That was sensible 👌 I’m not too sure which day, my regular routine is Mon/Wed/Fri but with half term I can seeing that being disrupted! I could end up being a Halloween graduate! 🎃
Well done on completing run 3 of week 8, only 3 more runs until you graduate, I assume that you are in Ireland when you mentioned that this is a holiday weekend, enjoy it. 😊 🏃🏾
Our friend Damienair also lives in Ireland, he organises weekly virtual 5K runs, if you wish to take part in them you are welcomed, perhaps you could wait until you graduate from C25K and run several 30 minute consolidation runs before you think of running a virtual or any 5K, good luck for your graduation run 🏃🏾 😊
Well done on the run! Glad the knee held up 👍🏻 my one constant fear when running is that my occasional knee niggle becomes something worse, I'm finding that building up the running has lessened the knee pain but it still pops up and scares me from time to time.
I’m the exact same Jericho. I used to semi-regularly dislocate my kneecap when I was younger, so I’m always conscious of knee injuries. But this one seems to be firmly in the overuse category and with rest and ice-ing holds up just fine!
Well done to you! I see that you’ve only 1 run left now? Amazing! When do you plan to graduate? 🙌🙌 Best of luck and congrats in advance!
Thinking of going in the morning.... I think il check weather when I wake up and if its decent may go for it. Want to enjoy this run and dont think howling wind and torrential rain are gonna help that 🤣 no work Monday so could always do it then if I miss tomorrow.
Went hiking today! 6.5 miles over some pretty rough terrain and the knee held up well, little uncomfortable on uphill sections but nothing major. May be worth the extra days rest tomorrow though 🤔
Well done on your run 👍🏻 My next run is week 8 run 3 so I’m encouraged to read your success story, particularly after a knee niggle which I have too!! My knee thing is historic and connected to several knee ops over the years and less strength than I’d like that throws all kinds of issues into the mix 😩
With this increased running, like you, I’ve found building a few extra days rest and icing the knee in between runs has really helped me power on. Albeit a bit slower through the programme than I would’ve liked! I’m so impatient but I’ve learnt the hard way before and am determined not to ruin all my hard work 💪🏼
Good luck for week 9! My next run will be Monday then I’ll be chasing your tail haha 😆 We CAN do this!!
We sound similar with long plaguing knee issues, although I’ve only yet had 1 operation on them.
It’s scary getting the niggle when you’ve had proper full blown injuries in an area before, but I think the difference in level of pain showed me it’s just too much too soon, so I’m going back to every 2+ days of running. Soon we’ll be able for more!
Snap on the impatience but giving ourselves the time will stand to us. I’m firmly believing this because if I don’t I may go mad 😂😊
We absolutely can, it’s just bedding it in now. And getting the body and mind used to it. We’ve GOT THIS!
Not 100% sure yet when I’m planning my graduation run, it all depends on how my knee behaves this week 🙄 I’m aiming for W8R3 on Monday. W9R1 maybe Thurs and so on..
Key for me is prep for the run with hydration, decent food and sleep (listen to me, I sound like I’m an athlete or something 😀) Then I stand a chance of running better and not slogging it round which in turn then buggers the knee! So much of it is getting your head in the right place too!
