I woke up late and that is never a good start to the day. But hey ho I've got a run to run so lets get out there. I'd seen the weather forecast last night and so expected it to be somewhat damp and therefore quite pleased that at the start of my run it seemed to be just light, spotty rain and not too cold.
I had spent sometime figuring out Samsung Health (SH) last night, setting it up so that it knew that I wanted to run 5km in 30min with 5min warm up and down at either side of the run. I set it all going on my phone, and was reasonably pleased at first, it even automatically paused when I stopped to adjust my shoelace tension.
The run started up a slight incline, and for the first time since week 2 or 3 my breathing was all over the place and I was struggling for breath. But SH told me my pace was good and I just put the uncomfortableness down to the usual settling in to the start of the run. Then doubt started to creep in as SH told me 1km had been covered at a point that seemed far too early. The doubt increased as SH told me to increase pace 8.3kmh. Hold on I need to be averaging at 10kmh in order to run 5km in 30 min. I carried on and hit the 3km mark, and then the 4km but I din't feel good and was pretty sure that the distance covered included the warm up walk, which was not at all what I wanted.
As time and strides passed I didn't really know what was going on and then I came out of a fairly sheltered area into the teeth of the wind. The horizontal raindrops were stinging my face and I was having to squint. My right calf tightened up and I developed a pain in my shoulder. I was knackered and just plain miserable and for the first time said sod it and dropped into a walk. 50m later I started running again but my heart was just not in it and was soon back walking. So basically I ran for 20 minutes this am and walked for 20.
I'll be back out on Friday AM and am just going to log this as an off day, but I don't like this feeling of not completing what I set out to do! I will be reverting to the C25K W9 podcast as Samsung Health does not do it for me.
Now who's for a nice hot cup of cocoa?
