Wednesday was supposed to be my first consolidation ๐โโ๏ธ and then I looked at the weather forecast โน๏ธ๐ฅบ๐
Not just a bit of water ๐ฆ but a yellow weather warning โ ๏ธ ๐คฏ
Do I wait for Thursday or go today? Decisions decisions...
I guess I wanted to get a CR under my belt so thought Iโd chance it. My muscles still felt a bit tight from Sunday so I took time for warm up stretches especially as Iโm in this running lark for the long haul now ๐
I took Jo with me as others on the forum suggested and headed out.
Well, let me start with the excuses now ๐คช
Iโd not eaten or drunk enough in the day (perhaps if Iโd been drunk Iโd have found it easier!๐คฃ๐) and Iโd already walked 40 minutes to a meeting and back earlier in the day.
After 15 minutes it was getting hard, 20 minutes in and I wondered why Iโd bothered as it was no longer fun! Even my tech didnโt want to work properly!! I took my armband off so I could watch the clock run down, slowed right down and dug in.
Well I made it through 30 minutes, so one CR down, but Iโm going to try to forget that ๐โโ๏ธ
The best bit was the cool down stretches! ๐

Bad runs are always going to happen! Even when at my fittest, Iโd have days where my runs were absolutely terrible. Well done for getting through it and on to the next one!
I think the only thing is to just keep going. You definitely deserve kudos for keeping to the 30 mins.
I've now done 19 consoliodation runs (or whatever you wnt to call them) and the results have been mixed, but mostly good,
I've had to cut things short on 2 or three bad days, but on the other hand, I've also now managed to run for 48 mins, which I can't help feeling a bit chuffed about.
I graduated C25K a few months ago and I still have runs when work/weather/weekend wine/whatever conspire against me. On the good days, though, it's amazing! Just stick with it, and don't beat yourself up if things don't always go to plan. Happy running!
Well done for getting out there and getting another 30 mins chalked up ๐ช sounds like youโd had another busy day ๐ฌ Iโm sure your next one will be more enjoyable ๐
I always find the โafterโ stretches the best bit ๐
Iโve been very naughty ๐คชand havenโt been doing stretches like I should have been either before or after. I think if Iโm going to be in this for the long haul Iโd better start taking the stuff outside of just lifting my legs in a ๐โโ๏ธ motion more seriously!
The โrainโ tomorrow is actually a storm so definitely not just a bit of water ๐ฆ so glad I got out there even if it didnโt go as planned ๐
Thank you ๐ but I have to intention of going out in the rain which is now forecast ๐ will try and choose my moment! Looks like there maybe a window of opportunity at midday but itโs going to get warm again ๐
Slap your wrist ๐ฒ not before or after ๐ฑ Iโve started to set aside an hour now (which I know is easy for me and Iโm lucky I have that luxury) as by the time Iโve got myself sorted out with bits and bobs ๐ warmed up, run and stretched after, thatโs how long it takes!
Just seen your other post too. Again, I was lucky enough yesterday to have time to spend reading the recommended links and consolidation stuff so have a bit of a plan but I shall definitely be doing 3 weeks of (hopefully) 3 runs of 30 minutes before I even start to think of longer or shorter ๐ฌ๐
I love that you say you're into running for the long haul now. Hold on to that when you have a bad run. We all have them - it's how you deal with them that makes you a runner.
I love your post about judgement day, whether to keep running or to stop. Iโm sure we will all have one of those moments and I hope I donโt let the ๐ฆฅ gremlins get in the way ๐
In running Iโve definitely found something that is for me rather than my work, my children, my partner, my dog, my parents... the list goes on and that makes it precious ๐
Thank you. You never know what reaction your words will have and it's nice to know that post struck a chord and is still encouraging people. It just goes to show that early struggles are a common experience.
Chin up and push on through. The rewards are worth it. X
Well done! These things are sent to try us. Iโve had similar problems- forgot water bottle, Lycra running trousers feel they are falling down (maybe Iโve lost weight!) tech fails me and there is no music of voice in my head spurring me in. But I finished my fourth consolidation run last night. No faster, but I did it.
How strange. I graduated on Friday and did a lovely run with my beginners running club in Sat and actually felt I could run further than 5k. Then Monday came and my legs were heavy and I couldnโt run. I managed 4K with a few stops.
Today itโs raining so canโt get out there. Hoping tomorrow is going to be a better run.
As long as we keep it up Iโm sure we will have good and bad days. X
