So Laura was a minute behind me today. I know this because I timed myself on my phone stopwatch. I purposely ran the extra minute at the end (uphill as usual) to prepare for next week.
I woke up this morning feeling a bit wheezy from my dodgy lungs. I took an extra blast of the blue asthma inhaler to prepare for the run. Even though my legs were a bit more achy than normal from Monday’s run, I was still on top of it. The incline in the first 5 minutes of my run doesn’t feel like much to worry about now. I played the music again today and I think it makes a big difference to me as I can use it to spur me on.
I ran back and forth three times on the flat part of the Heath instead of twice, which means I’m getting faster. I ran the first half of the run much faster than normal (7.2 per km instead of 8.2) and so I struggled a bit in the second half. I think so much of running is getting used to the feeling of discomfort.
This was probably one of my strongest runs even though I’m getting used to the fact that I’m probably never going to find running for half an hour very easy due to my dodgy lungs, but it is becoming more comfortable. Now I simply look like a 57 year old man running at a slow pace rather than a 157 year old trying to make it to the local hospital before he expires.
Iggy Pop’s Lust For Life started playing right at the end as I was doing the extra minute uphill. I actually sped up to announce my approval of the fact that running has indeed given me an extra lust for life.
On to Week 9 now! Good luck to all fellow week 8ers and everybody else running.
