C25K Week 6

Hi everyone I’m new to this and would like your thoughts. I’m 54 and I’ve just finished week 6. I would like to say I’ve enjoyed it but I’ve never ran in my life and only enjoy the finish. I feel like I drag myself along at times. Does anyone else feel like this or is it just me? I will not give up though !

Yep, I have had plenty of times like that. I'm 53, and was new to this in May, so right with you. I often find the middle bit if the run us the hardest, mentally. Plough on through, you can do this, and that high at the end of a difficult run is the best.

I’m pleased I’m not the only one. I feel like I’m not getting any better but when I think about it on week one I thought I would never be able to do week 2 but here I am about to start week 7. I love the walk home though knowing what I’ve achieved.

You are sooooo getting better, look how far you've come. Keep at it, before long you'll be graduating 😊

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

Can you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run?.........if not, you are going too fast.

Slowing down to the recommended easy conversational pace makes it more achievable and for most, more enjoyable.

Say this sentence out loud to yourself "Am I going slow enough to enable me to speak this sentence in one breath?" If you cannot, you are going too fast.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

I will have a read of this thanks. I run with a friend and can speak but it is gasps. I don’t know if I can go much slower I seem to jog rather than run. I’m determined to carry on tho however long & hard it is.

You're doing fine. Cto5k is a challenge and as a new runner you will be feeling the effort. We all have to dig deep sometimes to complete a run and there can be tough patches during the run. If you are completing them, then that's all you need to do at this stage. You're doing just great!
