I chose a totally different route just to add a bit of ‘interest’ to my run this morning. It worked in the main. A bit wet and bumpy under foot but not bad. Managed to run 35 mins for the first time and felt that I could have kept going but I needed to fit in my 5 min cool down walk in and I was getting too close to home.
I’ll plan better next time.
Oh and I nearly managed 5k - I was only 300m short but I didn’t realise that until I’d got indoors. For the sake of clarity, that includes the pre-run walk and the cool down so technically I’m not running anywhere near a 5k yet BUT I am still thrilled at my progress since starting this journey on 7th July.

Being totally in tune with what is around me sounds idyllic but I run in an urban area where there is constant racket so music is a pleasant barrier from all that. That’s also the reason why I tend mostly to do a brisk early morning walk to a park or a green space for my run so that ‘life’ in all its infinite variety doesn’t mess with my head when I am trying to haul my carcass on a 30 minute run. I really do envy anyone doing this ‘journey’ in a rural setting, I truly do. Although, I have the benefit of all streets being lit so running when it’s dark in a month or so will still be do-able for me so I guess there are benefits.
I don’t really live in a rural area - but lucky to be near the edge of a town so I can reach the surrounding fields. I completely agree with you heading to green space & using music to shut out the sound of traffic- I often listen to music on my road runs. 😄
