WK9 R1 5k achieved!

Today was run 1 of the final week.

Before starting c25k I hadn’t run anywhere in more than 30 years.

So 9 weeks ago we decided to start c25k and today, despite being very out of shape those 9 weeks ago, here I am. 5k done!

I had an extra rest day after wk8r3 and I don’t know if that made a difference? I felt good for the whole 30 minutes today. I hadn’t once thought I needed to stop and when Laura said there was only 60 seconds to go I felt I could easily go for another 5 mins. Then she told me to slow down, but I didn’t want to. I have stuck to the program up until now, but it’s the last week and I threw caution to the wind. Off I went.

When Laura next spoke she told me the cool down walk was finished. I took a quick look at strava, I’d run 4.6k in 35 mins. My legs were starting to ache a little but I still felt ok. In previous weeks I would have stopped running and walked for my 5 minute cool down, but only 400m, I couldn’t let that go. So I just carried on. An extra lap of the local block and it was done!

I really can’t express how far I’ve come in 9 weeks. On week 1 running 60 seconds felt like the hardest thing I’d ever done, I remember thinking that it was going to be impossible to get to week 9. I am so grateful to c25k for such a great training schedule. It’s worked perfectly for me. And if I can do it, I bet almost anyone can. I’m so glad I didn’t give up.

I hope to graduate by the end of the week.

I’m a runner now 😁

Fantastic running and a lovely write-up. Look forward to reading about the next couple of runs.

Had a very similar experience with W8R3. There's nothing quite like the moment you realise you're really close to hitting 5K, and then discovering there's you've enough energy left to actually push on through and finish a full 5K run. I feel your joy.

Congratulations! Enjoy the vibe! :)

A good run for Darrencuk but you should not have run further than 30 minutes, doing that at this stage could cause a injury, so for your 2 remaining runs of week 9, including of course your graduation run, keep to the 30 minutes, good luck for your graduation run 🏃🏾 😊 👍.
