I decided it was time to try a new route! Hopeful that I might do 8K, I checked out a route I had in mind that previous local runners had done.
I left the house for my warmup walk - and realised it was cold! As I would be running slowly, I thought I’d better go back in and change. Swapped shorts for longer running tights, tee shirt for long sleeved top. Nope! Still cold. I’d had a brand new waterproof / windproof jacket delivered yesterday. It was so new, I didn’t want to wear it, but needs must! And rain was forecast.
So off I go. Beatles 🎵 through the headphones 🎧 and heading out of the village! It felt like an adventure running a completely new route! I’m running on the main road and there is a little traffic. Speeding! I have to jump into the verge a couple of times.
I turn into a single track road, which is very quiet. I’m just glancing at my watch to make sure I’m in the right zone, I don’t really need to look at anything else. My watch buzzes for 4K and I keep going, up ahead, I can hear a dog barking. I notice that it’s on a lead and as I get closer I realise that not only is it barking at me, but it obviously wants to kill me! The owner has pulled it to the side now and has it by the collar. I speed up to pass them and run on to a safe distance. My heart rate is through the roof and I have to walk slowly for a while to get back into Zone 3. That done, I turn out onto another main road and manage to keep in the right zone until the end of the the run. Santana 🎵 serenades me and I sing along in Spanish! 😀
Strava truncated the time slightly, my run was 1 hour 25 minutes and the 10% rule was applied 😊. Pleased to also have achieved 8K, who would have thought it?!!!
