I have a steely determination this morning as I set out for my run. Todayโs the day. Warm up walk done, music ๐ง ๐ต on. I didnโt even care what it was.
Slow and steady. 1st km - out of the village. I glance at the pace. 8:30, yes, thatโs reasonable, not too fast. Feeling great! No grass on this route - it slows me down. I head to the Deadend Track (see pic) popular with runners for interval work. 2nd and 3rd km. I glance at my watch; itโs difficult to keep a consistent, reasonable pace. I check the heart rate zones and find I must have messed with the settings as Iโm continually running in the red zone! Doh!
I come out of the Deadend Track and back onto the main road. 4K. I would normally be ending my run, but no! Push on, stop looking at your watch. This last km is never ending! I arrive back in the village. Turn down a side street just to add some distance. 4.8 km - nearly there!
Made it!! Canโt quite believe it but I have! I run on for a few seconds, just in case. I stop the watch and put my hands on my hips, a sure sign I am exhausted. And is that rain on my neck? Nope, itโs sweat! This run actually had me sweating! Hope no-one sees me, my new, short haircut must be ruined ๐. I walk briskly home and look at myself in the mirror expecting to see a red faced, sweating wreck, but I sigh with relief. Just as gorgeous as ever! And Iโve just run 5K!
Thanks to my forum โbuddiesโ who encouraged me to do this! I probably wouldnโt have attempted this for another few weeks as I didnโt think I was ready. Turns out I was!

Thanks! It was your comment yesterday about long, slow runs and shorter, faster runs that got me thinking. I slept on it and knew as soon as I woke up that I was going to try. Youโre right, Iโve done it once so I can do it again, (not this week, though ๐.)
Iโm notified by email about your posts on this forum, because I follow you. I just dropped into the other one, to have a look and saw the posts in there. I donโt think I was notified about your posts in that forum.
Yes, thatโs right. I wasnโt notified of your posts there. Iโm also only notified of the threads that people I follow actually start (on the Couch to 5K forum) or their responses to a thread of mine, not their comments on other threads. Thatโs how it usually works.
Ah OK. Reason I'm asking is I'm trying something tomorrow with my Consolidation 5 post and need to check with a follower what they get notified about. May I ask you tomorrow??๐
Well done Julia .... knew youโd get there ... that was an epic run !! Your first 5k ๐๐๐๐๐ช๐
As for it might not have been too soon ... when youโre in a groove, everything feels good ... then thatโs the time to push it a bit ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Excellent achievement ๐
You do realise we all now expect this to be the norm from you .... ๐๐
Your support certainly helped me to decide to go for it! It was right do it today. Iโd kept my previous 4 runs just over 30 minutes and thought it was the right time to extend that further.
I will! ๐ I just decided to go for it! I tried not to push myself too hard with the pace, it was really the last half kilometre that was tough and I wasnโt about to give up then!
Good luck! ๐ค On my first consolidation run, I looked at my watch after 30 minutes and saw that 4K was within my grasp! I had to run an extra 3 minutes or so and those 3 minutes were really tough but I did it. Iโve always been one of the slower runners on here, but itโs a balance of determination and trying not to overdo it! ๐
Amazing ! Well done โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ
