Consolidation Run 12 - Windy ๐ŸŒฌ

I checked the weather forecast yesterday, as I usually do the day before I run, to find that weather warnings were in place for high winds! But I thought I would get up anyway and see. Well, yes; it was windy. I decided to go!

I knew that my heart rate was already up a little. Iโ€™d had an anxious day and night, but I hadnโ€™t really appreciated how much it would affect my run. I had a challenging time keeping my heart rate in Zone 3. Battling the wind probably didnโ€™t help, not to mention going through some long grass. Iโ€™d already decided that I would take a slightly different route this morning, a mixture of track and trail, giving me the opportunity to don my lovely Salomon trail shoes!

The infamous Deadend track was still part of this route and when youโ€™re running slowly, it does seem to go on forever and itโ€™s particularly exposed to the wind. Actually, everything is exposed to the wind here, Iโ€™m in the fens and there isnโ€™t much shelter ๐Ÿ˜€.

I was aware that I was covering less distance than the last time I went on a long, slow run. I decided that I would run for 1hr 15min this morning and hopefully cover 7K. For the last 15 minutes I encroached I into Zone 4. It still wasnโ€™t much effort and it was my run, so I allowed it!

I enjoyed the run! Although it was windy, itโ€™s a lovely morning here and a joy to be out running. I did have to dive into the hedge when a lorry ๐Ÿš› passed by a bit close for comfort!

All in all a good run! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸŒฌ

That's a fantastic run in those conditions too๐Ÿ‘ It's good that you adapted as you went along as not every training session has to be set in stone. Did you have to hydrate on the move as I got really thirsty after after an hour the other day?๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks! No, I didnโ€™t take any water with me. I have to be careful about hydrating as I donโ€™t tend to get thirsty. Drinking water is a conscious decision I have to make! I force myself to drink water when I return from a run.

Well done for getting out in the weather ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

It must be quite windy there in the open fens !

But, it didn't stop you ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Oh no, I hope your ok from your lorry avoidance !!

They do pass close sometimes don't they !

I often have one or 2 on my last km.

I'm having a 2nd rest day today ๐Ÿ˜

Thanks, Ian! You are right about the wind here! The Deadend Track is particularly open. I wasnโ€™t too bothered about the lorry driver. I had spotted him and saw from quite a distance that he wasnโ€™t moving over. A quick hoppity-skippety into the hedge and all was fine! I shall have 2 rest days now and do a faster run on Monday. ๐Ÿ‘

Morning Jools, Well done ๐Ÿ‘ for 7 K run in this wind ๐Ÿ‘ really windy up here in the NW...

Hope no harm is done with flipping lorries ๐Ÿš› passing too close for comfort ๐Ÿคž

Glad you enjoyed your run ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ itโ€™s nice as you said to be out in the fresh air ...

Thank you MccHa! I enjoyed being outside in the early morning sunshineโ˜€๏ธ You canโ€™t escape the wind where I live, itโ€™s really flat and open.

Hi Jools, thatโ€™s a very impressive distance you ran, I can only dream of attaining that. Trying very slowly to increase my distance but all my local runs are quite hilly and challenging.

Although itโ€™s quite amazing what our little old bodies can manage๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ‘

Thank you! I can only run that distance because I do it really slowly. I sing as Iโ€™m running. Itโ€™s that slow!

It very obviously works, maybe I should slow down instead of trying for go faster stripes!!!

Yes! Just try increasing the time you spend running for, say, your 3rd run of the week. Add 10-15 minutes. Distance is irrelevant. Run at an easy pace. You might be surprised, it was a revelation to me.

Great run! ๐Ÿ˜And in that wind - I bet it's absolutely howling across the fields up there. I know how exposed it is ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ

I decided not to get up and run this morning and am already regretting it a bit โ˜น๏ธ

My justification is it's hard to avoid the woods unless I run up and down the main roads and I don't want a tree branch falling on me (yes I bottled it I know)

There is always later today or tomorrow morning ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Yes, it was a bit heavy going along the Deadend Track, which is basically through the fields. But it was doable! Not many trees here along my route, fortunately. Hopefully the wind will abate by tomorrow for your run! ๐Ÿ™‚

Really impressive to run for that length of time. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Iโ€™m trying the same as you and not concerned about speed at all - just trying to keep going a little longer.

Itโ€™s lovely to see a plan working well - it really does seem to suit you.

Thank you, yes it does seem to suit me! I still go out once a week and push it. But doing that all the time was not doing it for me, I couldnโ€™t see a fast enough improvement. This way, I know Iโ€™m conditioning my body as well as enjoying the runs more. Itโ€™s not hard to run at an easy pace. ๐Ÿ˜Š
