I’ve had to break running for a month. Knee pain! Better now but where do I start. Hoping to go out in the morning? But realise I can’t do the 30 to 40 minutes straightaway. Any advice? Thanks!!

When I returned from a break due to illness i just went for a gentle slow run and when i felt i’d had enough i went home again and gradually built on that

I had 3 months out due to knee pain. I ended up restarting C25K from the beginning. I am back on week 6 at the moment. It took so long for my knee to heal that I did not want to do anything to risk it

I did the same. Two months out and started C25K again. Wasn't going to risk going backwards as I hated not being able to run for 2 months.

As stated in the guide to the plan, healthunlocked.com/couchto5... you lose no significant condition in the first two weeks of non running.

After that loss of condition is gradual.

All any of us can do after a lay off is to go out and see what we can comfortably manage, then build back up gently, using C25k or something similar as a guide to weekly increase.

Hi like you I have just had a break of 4 weeks due to knee issues. I restarted 2 days ago with week 5 run 1 which I found easy and added an extra 5 mins. Good luck it’s great going back to it !

Hi, I too had to have a fairly long break for my knees, but like others here I used some of the C25K runs to get back in. I particularly found the week one runs good to start with because there wasn’t actually much running so I could tell if the knees were up to it yet.

Once I got that one right I moved up in stages missing out a week or two as I felt more confident. I’ve been back just over a month now and am back to running 5-6k three times a week now. But still slowly!

Well I an on the IC at the moment my plan is to redo a cut down c25k again. Say start at week five or six and go from there. Accelerating the week set 3 runs down to one so rather than repeating the run you move on as required. Good luck.

Thanks. Decided to go for week 5 (as it was my best week first time around). Run 1 done with no problem. So will do two rest days and then Run 2. Fingers crossed!

All the best for your next run 😊
