6 weeks break due to injury:-(

I saw my GP on thursday because I started getting pain from last 2 weeks at the top of right thigh and sadly she has banned me from any running for next 6 weeks. I can't tell you how upsetting is that? I will miss Great South Run 5k and also won't be able to do my first ever 10K in Nov in Regent's park.Loosing the registration money totally sucks but more importantly the psychological trauma!

Today for the first time in last 3 days, I left house for a small slow walk around the river which is my usual running route. I saw lots of runners on the way, I could not help myself I was so envious of them then I just ended up crying for being silly, afterall it's not their fault I can't run.

I intend to walk everyday for atleast an hour and possibly do some yoga but what else can I do?? I am so worried about loosing most of my fitness.

Sorry to hear your bad news, not sure what's wrong, but if it's impact related, then what about cross trainer, swimming etc to keep the fitness up.

Oh no, I really feel for you! My major fear is to get injured and not be able to plod on!

What does your gp think the problem is? As Phil said, swimming, or an exercise bike or something?

Hi Phil and Deryn- thank you for your sumpathy. I am allowed to walk or use stationary bike, nothing else. I can't swim unfortunately. GP is not exactly sure what's wrong but she has given me anti-inflammatory to take for 2 weeks.

Hmm. I think it might be worth seeing a sports physio, you would have to pay but it sounds a bit like your doc doesnt know whats wrong, and whereas there's nothing wrong with rest and anti inflammatories it would be nice to know what it is and see how you can avoid a reoccurrence?

Exactly my thoughts Deryn, I can access private sports physiotherapist through my university (I work at univ), so I have got appt on 19th evening. Unfortuantely he is completely booked up before that but I am sure he can diagnose me.
