Well having had a pathological dislike for running except perhaps for last orders when younger.....I now find myself looking forward to finishing wk1! I feel quite heavy moving along (its the best way I can describe it) but I expect to feel a little lighter as the weeks pass? Anybody else felt similar? How did it work out for you?

Welcome to the program and the forum ,
Well done for starting !
I'd suggest reading the guide to the plan and taking note of hydration and warm up and after run excercises (as well as everything else it mentions of course)
I also had a dislike of running but lockdown and this amazing program and forum certainly changed my mind .
I remember feeling a bit heavy in my runs at first until I got my form and pace sorted out more , I think it similar for most of us when it new.
But stick with it, it's a fantastic program and there will be a lot of support on here , just post a quick note here after your run !
And it will work out fine , just keep the runs slow and you will get there .
Most of all, trust the program and enjoy the journey 👍
Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.
Enjoy your journey.
I hadn't done any exercise for 25 years, started c25k in April 2020 and graduated in June. Best thing I've done in years, got a lot more energy, lost weight, family are proud of me..
Keep at it, listen to the Zep as you run around, the longer you run the more Led Zeppelin you listen to! 👊🏃♂️💖👏👍
Definitely! I was new to running too and started off with a proper plod! One day my husband said my style had improved as I was picking my feet up more! 😂 My plod has slowly changed into a jog and the legs feel less heavy now. Yes it should get easier. I’m now 5 weeks into consolidation.
I’m very similar to you except I maybe didn’t heed the advice enough hence now I’m having to take a break with painful shins (the start of shin splints). So things I’ve done wrong in the hope you won’t.
1) Go slow, it’s not a race and you’re not as young or as light and agile as you once were.
2) Stretch before running not just after, it’s important.
3) Get some good quality shoes and have your gait analysis done so your feet are better supported (go to a running shop rather than a general sports retailer).
4) Go slow, I say that again because it is ‘the’ most important.
Good luck, follow the program and you’ll smash it!
