Not sure how to work this site. But here it goes...... had a rough few years but I have decided to turn things around. I want to be a healthy, active, happy me. Started couch to 5k on 21st July. To be honest wasn’t too positive, oh my gosh I am smashing it. Doing as I am told. I am trying to sort my diet out at the same time, which was going very good till I had a weeks holiday. I managed my runs on holiday. Back on it now. Happy, healthy, active me.....here I come x

Week 6 run 2. Quite surprised I am still at it. I normally find something works for me and then give in after a few weeks lol x

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

The way it works here is that you post your successes on here and we all celebrate with you or you tell us your woes and we pick you up and dust you off! Random questions are also answered. In other words it’s very supportive and if no one else in your life understands why you run - we will. Well done and welcome to the gang.

Thank you so much. I asked my daughter the other day “why do I turn into a beetroot after a jog” bless her she said “coz you running properly”. I always wonder why I look so, well, shattered lol. Is this normal ?x

Absolutely normal! 🥵 Your daughter got it spot on too. Sounds like you’re found an amazing job but done worry if you have hiccups along the way. Runs that don’t go well as just practice runs on here!!

You beetroot because the processes releasing energy and dealing with the results of using that energy don't realise you've stopped for about 5 to 10 minutes, and all the waste heat from your exercise has to go somewhere, so there's increased blood flow to the skin.
