2 x 5k pb's this week!

β€’12 Replies

I have been training for my 10k and have been 'going faster' on my plan. This has got me another 5k pb of 29.44!! I am super happy to be a little further sub 30 minutes. Then today I took my 7 yr old over to parkrun with me and she managed a new 5k pb of 33.10, which was 1 minute 24 seconds faster than her last pb three weeks ago. I am so proud of her! The parkrun volunteers are amazing in their encouragement to the little ones.

Mini Doyle is a super star! I just need to harness her enthusiasm for parkrun and keep her on track. She is hoping to get her 10 t-shirt soon!

How old is Mini Doyle? My daughter is 10 and I would love it if she would run with me.

Edit: oh sorry, I see now she is 7

Yes she is 7 but started at 6 yrs 10mth. My eldest is 8yrs and she has run with me too but prefers cross country running at school. She has to run close to me but once they get to 10/11 they can go off ahead.

My daughter is a gymnast. Strong as an ox, but not much of a runner - some cardio training would do her good, I think. I'll see if I can convince her to join me. Any tips on doing that?

Try walk run to start. Or if you can go out for a 1.5-2mile run together in advance to parkrun. It will give you both an idea of how it will go. We started walk run and got round in 39 minutes. Then all running at 36 minutes but getting faster. Plenty of encouragement goes a long way. I try not to think about my time but rather go at her pace. It we don't get round then that's cool. I see some children in tears with a parent telling them off because they are not running, so sad.

Yes, if I bring her along it has got to be on her terms :-) Run walking is a good idea, especially if we agree on it before we go, then she won't think of it as failing.

Well done! We share the same PB time. Here's to faster times aheadπŸ˜ƒ

I would love to get faster but I have had quite a few pb's in terms of distance and pace recently that it will have to slow at some point! In the meantime, I am a relative newbie, so keep them coming!!
