Why are some runs harder than others? Just been out found this run hard going and still not achieved 5k yet. I run 2.89 miles in 32 mins today but could not go on. Any advice?
Consolidation run 4: Why are some runs harder... - Couch to 5K
Consolidation run 4
I struggled today too. I carried on to 5k which took me 38 minutes. Maybe the strong headwind?.. But it really took it out of me
That is very nearly 5k - less than 10% to go! I'm sure you'll get there if you keep training.
If you're only on your 4th consolidation run, then I wouldn't push for 5k just yet. If you are still running for 30 mins at a comfortable pace, that's what's important, as you are still building your stamina on these longer runs. Your distance is pretty good, but pushing at this stage may lead to injury. Just as importantly, because running is as much a mental challenge as a physical one, you risk being disappointed by thinking too much about distance or pace at this stage. It will come, but maybe just try and relax into your 30 minute runs for now and that will be the basis for increasing the lengths of your runs gradually over the next few weeks. It took me and many others on the forum, a while to get to 5k!
You're nearly there. 2.9 miles is 4.66 km. You're not far off. Don't fret about it.
Just keep consolidating, varying the types of routes a bit. Look at what Instructor57 is doing: short, faster runs; longer, slower runs.
Speed will come eventually. You don't need to rush things.
I didn't hit 5k til my 9th consolidation run. You're doing fine π
