Well , that was...interesting.
Set off out of the door looking forward to this. Planned to push it out a little longer again, having run 40 minutes and 4k last time. I was feeling good til I reached my car . Front tyre completely and absolutely flat.
Now ok, you'll all think, why do you need a car anyway?
I live part way up a horrible, long, steep hill. Even walking up it is a mission, so I drive up to a relatively flat track/cycle path. In days gone by the run would've been abandoned and scheduled for another day, but such is the power of this programme, I girded my loins (metaphorically anyway) and off I went.
What can I say?
The first 15 minutes of today's run were truly anything but enjoyable, and anything but fast. At times I felt I was running on the spot, if not backwards! My overall time was slower than usual, and instead of running for 40 plus minutes I stuck with the 30 on the app. But you know what? I RAN UP THAT HILL! I faced my personal bête noir and beat it. I then ran on, on my usual track to complete the 30 minute run time. Truth be told, once the hill was done it was all perfectly easy again, and I could have carried on, but one challenge at a time,eh? Time enough to extend the next two runs. Though I shan't be in a hurry to run that hill again! To be honest, it might not class as steep to real runners, lol, and I picked the slightly longer and less steep of the two hills from my house. This one was 170 ft elevation gain, 1.8 kilometres long. For me, it was Mount Everest.
So, today did not go according to plan, but it was a successful completion of W9 R3, and slow though the first part was, actually I'm darned proud of it! And I guess it might have done me some good.
So. Home. Hot tub primed and ready. I've earned it today. Happy running folks...
