About myself
Hi. Same age here. I'm not classed as overweight (6ft, 80kg/12½st) but I am unfit. I have found myself having to let my belt out a notch the last few years.
I toned up a little about seven years ago (and lost about 3kg) by walking a brisk mile at lunchtimes (the sandwich shop was half a mile away) but in recent years have put that all back on when I stopped doing that due to a change of office location.
Welcome to our little club.
I'm currently on Week 5 and enjoying it (mostly).
Welcome to the forum and C25K, running won't in itself make you lose weight, if you want to lose weight, along with doing C25K try a healthy nutritious diet, when doing the course take all the runs slowly, you can repeat any runs or week's if you wish to, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, don't run on consecutive days, I hope your runs go well, good luck.
Hi Julie,
I have completed couch to 5k and so have been running for just over 11 weeks now, I am almost 58 and a little over weight, but I have found although the scales don’t show I have lost weight, but my waist, thighs and hips have all reduced by at least an 1”, so I would recommend taking your measurements, writing them down with the date and what week and run you are on, and don’t measure yourself again until you graduate. I was thrilled with the difference and my clothes fit better and I feel healthier too. Hope this works for you and good luck with your running 😊
Same here, I graduated just over a week ago,I have only lost about 3lb but lost 2” from my hips, 1” from each thigh, 1.5” from my waist. I feel so much healthier and feel I stand taller ( which is an achievement at only 4’ 11”) and I am much more conscious now of naughty things to eat so now reducing those naughty foods, so hopefully I will lose a couple more lbs. keep running and thinking healthy and thinking healthy and we will achieve our goals
Muscle is denser than fat. You'll be building one whilst losing the other. Your weight probably won't change much but your figure will improve.
Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.
Enjoy your journey.
You will lose inches and gain self esteem! 😊🏃♀️🐢
Hi, Julie. Welcome to our club. I’m 52 and graduated a couple of weeks ago. I’ve lost weight by cutting out much of what more body didn’t need. That doesn’t mean all treats as I still need them!! But just bearing in mind that I’m running to improve my body and health so might as well watch what I ate as well. Enjoy it - I’m sure you will. 😀
Me to , I mean trying to lose some weight , not my name is Julie 😂
Keep running, I have just graduated and only lost about 3 lb but lost 2” from my hips , 1” from my thighs and 1.5” from my waist. I think twice before eating naughty food now, thinking how hard it is to run it off, so taking the healthy option plus running should show some positive results. Stick with it 🏃♀️🏃♀️
Good luck Julie, I lost weight on this programme as I found you crave muchhealthier food as you know it fuels your runs, also you’ll find your legs will tone up too 👍🏃♀️
Welcome... prepare to be smaller regardless of weight... and who doesn’t want nice firm bits? Running in itself isn’t a weight loss activity, but it does enable weight loss with the right nutritional tweaks.
Don’t worry about the scales for little while... the numbers may plateau as you build the muscles required to become a distance runner... this is good. A runner has endurance to apply to many other things, and determination, will power and self control that feed into that weight loss journey nicely.
You’ll hit all your goals Julie... you can do this... enjoy your journey.
I graduated 10 days ago and HAVE actually lost about half a stone since starting (didn't think to take measurements, but wish I had now). However, I can't put ALL the weight loss down to running. As the weeks went by, I found myself hydrating better, drinking a little less alcohol, and actually wanting to eating healthier. It's a gradual change of mind re healthy living, I think. Oh I still like pizza and wine occasionally But I'll have less of both, with some salad and fruit.
