Introducing myself...

Hello!

I just stumbled upon this community, about 4 years too late!

I did the program in 2012 and am now thoroughly addicted to running. Thanks to Laura I have done several 5k races, a couple 10k (even coming in dead last for my first one!), and 7 half marathons. I am currently training for my first marathon.

All this to say, work the program! It really works. If this chubby 51 year old can do it, you can too!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone :)

Hi and welcome to the forum! So glad that you are still out there loving your running! Good luck with your marathon training - which one are you doing? You also might want to check out the other two forums linked to this one; 'Bridge to 10k' and 'Marathon Running and Race Support'.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I am doing the Victoria, BC Marathon (I am in Canada). Thanks for the tips on the other forums. I will look for them.

I've heard Victoria is a great one - one of my closest chums ran it. I'm in Calgary.

Oh nice! Doing any races this year? I usually do most of the MEC ones, as well as the New Year's Eve one, and the Millerville bun run in June.

I did the Calgary 1/2 and the Legacy Place 10k (personal connection to the cause). I did the Millarville bun run last year. So much fun!! I may still do New year's Eve. I'm also on the fence about they Hypo half. The MEC races intimidate me. How do you find them?

I started with the MEC races. I really like them. I was worried it would be super MEC people but it's not. It's a super positive atmosphere. I've done mostly 5k with them and one 10k. The 5k is perfect for folks starting out - some people walk the whole thing. The 10 was more serious runners, but I think that's probably normal. They're also so cheap. No medal though. If you do new year's Eve or a MEC race let me know so I can say hello in person.

Also - I love the idea of the hypothermic half. I love winter running, I just wish it was 5 or 10k

Amazing what you have done already, I'm sure your marathon will be great too. Good luck.

Hello! Welcome to the nut house 😊

I care for a pug! I packed his bag yesterday though and he has gone back home to his mum ☺

7 half marathons! Eek 😊

Yeah, the seven half marathons kind of happened by accident. I really like the accountability of having a training program the the podcasts gave me. As a result I kept repeating training cycles for the 1/2 marathons.

yay pugs!
