First post injury consolidation run! πŸ˜„

So happy to say, that after 3 long weeks on the IC, finally managed to do my first post graduation run this morning! 😊 Delighted beyond words, have been a totally miserable g*t! 🀣 Have had inflammation and sporadic, sharp pain on the top of my left foot. Beatlesforever pointed me in the direction of a runners blog, (thank you! 😊) and there’s several causes, so who knows.... I hadn’t really noticed it till I made it worse on week 9, run 2. Managed to graduate but knew I couldn’t risk running till now. Have been green with envy at every runner that’s passed me in the street recently, so it’s fantastic to get my mojo back! Thanks for your β€œwhere are you” message Busylady1, it was really appreciated!😊 Went back to week 8 and did a respectable 28 mins. Bit of a slog in places but absolutely loved every minute! Really chuffed! πŸ’•πŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈ

So, happy days and happy running everyone! πŸ˜ŠπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’

That's great !

I did my first run today after 16 days on the injury couch, I know what you mean when you see other runner's out and about .

I hadn't reached Graduation, my last run was week 8 run 1 on the 10th .

I was back at it today and completed week 8 run 2 .

A bit sore now though so will take at least a couple of rest days 😁

Aw, thanks and I’m really chuffed for you that you’re back too! 😊 It feels so long doesn’t it! I did my usual stretches before I left the park, then some post run yoga ones (YouTube) when I got back, just for luck. πŸ˜„ I think you’re wise to take the extra days’ rest, especially when you’re so near graduating! My happiness levels definitely dipped too when I wasn’t able to run. Kept up with some yoga but definitely missed the running endorphins! Look forward to reading your victory post in the not too distant! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘ I’m off to buy some post graduation running leggings! πŸ€£πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’

Thank you for your reply , and yes, I can't believe how miserable I was not being able to run !

Hmm....maybe I should look up some yoga !

Enjoy your leggings shopping πŸ˜‚

I find yoga and Pilates both wonderful! 😊 Personally love Yin Yoga, as it’s very restorative but there’s plenty others to choose from. A good class will also give people alternative poses to do, to suit different abilities. Would definitely recommend. πŸ‘

I'm really quite interested in this but wouldn't know where to start .

There is so many yoga tutorials on YouTube .

I have been looking at some specifically for the pirifomis muscle which is the reason I couldn't run .

I will have a look for yin yoga πŸ™‚πŸ‘

In an ideal world, it’d be great if you could join a live class. A bit tricky just now unless anyone is doing outdoors stuff in your area. Otherwise, teachers in your local area may be doing live classes online e.g using Zoom. If you end up trying a pre-recorded one, just make sure you listen to your body and go at your own pace. If the exercise is too advanced, I sit out that pose or do a gentler one till I can join in again. 😊

Yes - sounds sensible to have a few days rest. Fantastic you were able to pick up from where you left off though πŸ‘

Yes it was πŸ‘

Wasn't sure at first though

I thought you'd been quiet for a while.

It's horrible not being able to go out, especially after just graduating! That's pretty impressive to be able to go out and do that after a break. How did your foot feel?

So happy for you that you're back out there πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸŽ‰

Yeh, sorry for not keeping in touch, was too miserable to post! πŸ˜„ At first I was thinking of only doing 20 mins but then I remembered IannodeTruffe’s advice, about not losing fitness for the first two weeks! So then I thought, well really it’s only a week I’ve lost, so stop being a big Jessie and try 28 mins and see how you get on! πŸ˜„Foot felt fine thanks and have also rubbed in some Arnica massage balm for good measure, which smells amazing. 😁 Will now have to catch up on everyone’s posts! πŸ˜ŠπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’

Brunsamarathon profile image
BrunsamarathonGraduateβ€’ in reply toGannet1

Lol love that smell, that and deep heat πŸ˜‚ Glad the foot is okay. What causes it?

It's good to know though, about the two weeks and fitness thing. That's what I like about this place, the advice is pretty spot on! I have been a bit slack with getting things ready for work but went out the other day and it was like I'd not stopped.

Good luck with the catching up lol πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Well, last I read, you sounded on it, up it, down it and enjoying it, so good on you! πŸ€£πŸ‘Seemingly can be anything from tying your laces too tight, to tendinitis, to nerve damage, to something else I can’t remember! Not really sure what caused mine but have changed how I tie my shoelaces, just in case! πŸ€“ πŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈπŸ€ž

Ahh okay, who knew there was so much to this running lark? Lol

I had to change my trainers, go up a size, because I was getting knee pain. Change the shoes and no problems.

Lol thanks, yeah it's been good since graduation. It's been good to mix it up a bit πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ‘

Interesting about the trainers! Glad you got rid of the knee pain. Mine are a half size up but they feel fine. You do realise we’re going to become hives of running information before long. πŸ˜„

Hey, thanks so much and so sorry to hear you’ve been through such an emotional roller coaster recently. I was so pleased to read that you’ve managed to keep running! It will literally keep you on track and everyone on here will definitely have been rooting for you all the way! πŸ’• x

Wondered where you'd gone to!

Sorry you've been injured but fantastic to hear you are back out there again πŸ˜πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Oddly I had pain and swelling on top of my right foot last week - but I definitely know the cause. I dropped a cold can of Stella Artois on top of it!😱

πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ™ƒπŸ‘ Thank you! Hope your foot has recovered! Did you have a split second quandary .... should I use it to ice my foot or will I just drink it?? πŸ˜„

No contest. Drink it obviously 😁

The foot's fine thanks

So please for you that you're back out there! Me too, have been on the IC (but nowhere near as long as you - just 5 days) with a bad left hip - so panful that it hurts to walk let alone run. I've done 3 consolidation runs since graduating, have only reached the 5k mark once which took me 36mins, and then I felt like dying! So going o keep to the 30 mins at whatever pace for a while. Gingerly going out this afternoon. You're an inspiration!

Gannet1 profile image
Gannet1Graduateβ€’ in reply to58soon

Wow, that sounds far worse! So sorry to hear that 58soon, really hope it heals well for you. Is there anything you can do for that apart from rest? Have you seen a doc? 5K in 36mins sounds awesome, shame about the β€œdying” though! πŸ˜„ Seriously though, I totally sympathise with the frustration of injury but I would go really carefully for now. Wish you all the best!

That's great news! It's horrible not to be able to run, glad you weren't on the IC for too long!

Gannet1 profile image
Gannet1Graduateβ€’ in reply toRoxdog

Thank you! 😊 Felt like 3 months, not 3 weeks! 😬C25K has kept me sane these last few months and also triggered an unexpected passion, so to have to stop straight after graduating was so frustrating! Anyway, glad to say, it’s onwards and upwards now. πŸ˜ŠπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’

Roxdog profile image
RoxdogGraduateβ€’ in reply toGannet1

Good luck! I'm just back after 6 weeks out. It was a bit miserable, but once I got the running bug, I wasn't going to give up easily!

Gannet1 profile image
Gannet1Graduateβ€’ in reply toRoxdog

Yeh, it’s so surprisingly addictive isn’t it! 😊 Never thought I would ever think that, you know, in my β€œprevious” life.... 🀣 Then, as you experienced better than me, to suddenly stop makes you doubly appreciate how lucky we are to be able to do it in the first place! πŸ‘

Woohoo, you're back!! πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈπŸŽ‰πŸ˜ƒ Great to hear from you again, so brilliant that you've managed to complete a whole 28 minutes - you'll be back at graduation level in no time πŸ‘πŸ‘ looking forward to hearing more about your progress, we missed you around here πŸ™‚ happy runningπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸŒ»

Aw, stop, you’re making me blush! 😊🀣Thanks so much Beatlesforever, so good to be back. I’m guessing I’m going to be reading a lot of your consolidation posts! πŸ˜„ That site you told me to have a look at was really informative. One suggestion was I may have been tying my laces too tight and not just my trail shoes! Looked at Professor Shoelaces website and am now tying them in a different step ladder way, which feels comfier and looser. They look OK on some boots but a bit messy on my trail shoes, which have different eyelets. Was wondering about trying elastic laces. Have you ever tried them? πŸ€“

Beatlesforever profile image
BeatlesforeverGraduateβ€’ in reply toGannet1

Glad you found it useful 😊 I've not tried elastic shoelaces but do let me know how you get on with them if you do give them a go πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Will do and thanks for both of your messages! In reply to your other one....Yeh, everyone seems a bit lost in consolidation. Think you’re wise to move onto JuJu’s plan. Like you say, for the motivation as well as the joy of it! πŸ˜ŠπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’
