Help!

Hey all! So I’ve completed my couch to 5k and now I am trying to get fitter and run faster. Now I am running 1 minute hard, two minutes easy and doing interval training and warming up etc but after two weeks I still breathe like an 80 year old going upstairs. I am overweight but I didn’t think I was so unfit :( any tips or reasons why??? Do I need more time to get fitter. I am worried as I wheeze a little when I run fast but I do not have asthma.

Any advise would be amazing! .) x

Well..you are still a fairly new Graduate...did you take a look at the pinned posts, for what to do next after Graduation? Your consolidation weeks are a great time to build on, what is just the start of your running.

healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Short runs, 30 minute runs and the lovely, long slow runs, which are the ones that build up strength and stamina.

Have you planned more stamina and strength work in now too, on some of your rest days?

You need to make sure that your body keeps up with those new running legs.

All this takes time...and some working out what is right for you...letting it evolve:)

I feel you may be pushing a tad too hard too soon..so perhaps take a peek at the posts and be a tad kinder to yourself.

You are doing so well.. relax and enjoy the next stage.

Thank you for your comment.

I am doing a special training programme 5 times a week of short and hard runs but it’s a killer! I feel like I can’t breathe at all after a minute running as fast as I can. I hope to be better in the coming weeks

Hi, I think you might be trying to do too much too soon. I’d take things a bit easier if I were you, and try not to do much speed work. I think 5 days a week is a bit too much. Try to find another plan, maybe with 2 or 3 runs a week? It would be terrible to pick up an injury at this stage. Very best of luck!🙂👍

5 times a week? ?,?

Maybe pull back..too much and much too soon..please take a look at those links..otherwise you may find yourself on the IC...and that is not the place to be...

Your description of how you feel with the plan you are doing is not good...time to rethink:(

You might be pushing it to much to soon, why not try running fast for 10 seconds then slow for 1 minute to begin with, then every couple of weeks you can increase the fast runs.

Have you read the guide to post C25K running?

healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

In there you will find the advice that to get faster, you need to spend most of your time running slower.........not doing intervals on every run and certainly not five times a week, seeing as you did not graduate that long ago.

Your current regime will probably seem hard and unsatisfying, unless you are a masochist, is putting you at injury risk and it is slow runs that build the stamina required to push hard in intervals.

Take care.
