Week 4 Run 1............who knew 5 mins was so long!

Started week 4 yesterday, 3 minute run nice and comfortable but then the 5 minute run was on me. I’m sure time slowed down....... l found I was working out how long I had left by the length of the music I was listening to. That was a bad move! As the music faded slowed down to a walk.

Got back into it after a few seconds. By the second 5 minute run I changed my thinking and began to judge my time by distance instead again not ideal.

Any suggestions from the forum on how to avoid these error and make the run more comfortable?

I’m going to repeat the first run again tomorrow with a fresh mindset and try to avoid timing my runs.

Good idea to have a practice run before the real run ☺️! No real suggestions other than slow it down. Tell yourself you’re not going to stop, you don’t need to! The program has prepared you to run for 5 minutes non stop, you can do it! If the track you’re listening to is about to end, then count each step as you run, that helped me and I still do it if I’m flagging. Or choose longer tracks 🙂 Trust the program. You can do it! Good luck 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Best advice is always to slow down. Biggest error is always going too fast. You can't run too slowly. At this stage it's all about time on your feet not speed or distance. Just jog along at a super comfortable slow pace and the time will whiz by. Trust the plan, it's brilliant and it works

Thanks guys.

I can't seem to break this habit at all. When I start a run, I work out how many 3-minute songs there are left to run to. Obviously, it never works out as very few songs are 3 minutes exactly and probably by the mid-way point, my mind has wandered on to thinking about other things.

But I definitely feel music can affect the run, some songs just don't lend themselves well to running to but others lift you up and give you more energy, such as most stuff from Ministry of Sound.

I did my week 4 run 1 today. It was hard on the 5min runs and on the first one I did feel like going to a walk for some of it but I didn’t, I too was counting my songs.

Where I run has trees on both sides of the track and when I was on the last 5min run I felt like the trees were cheering me on lol ( bet your all thinking week 4 and she’s lost it). It’s mad but it really helped. I’m so glad I made it though. Run 2 is on fri.
