Starting out

Hello everyone! Just posting for some accountability, I decided at the weekend to start C25k but haven't actually been out yet, excuses Sunday and last night, so tonight's the night!

I'm approaching 40 and never been too unfit but not really fit either. Used to go to be a gym regular and cyclist but family life got in the way, and I'm not even getting my cycle to the station for work at the moment. I walk a lot (dogs and kids) but stuck about 12 stone and want to get to 11 so decided to give running a go. (oh and bike needs some work but I'm not getting that done til I can get my voucher!!)

Hope to be checking in tomorrow to say I've done W1R1!!

One tip is to get everything ready (dressed for running, shoes on, phone ready, route planned etc) long before you plan to leave. Then when your planned time comes all you have to do is get out of the door, with minimum space for procrastination. Have you found the FAQ post? lots of good tips there.

Welcome to the forum and well done your decision.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Well done for making the decision!! That’s the first big thing, which we all in the forum made at some point so you are in good company... follow the plan, read sons of the pinned posts and celebrate each run with the forum and when needed ask for advice and support ... good luck !

Welcome! Yes, you just need to get out of that door and start!! I’m 66, never run before and just started Week 7, which consists of 25 minute runs. I never thought I could do it, but I have.

I started Week 1 with a great deal of enthusiasm. Too much, as it turned out, I set off far too quickly. The second run was much better as I followed the brilliant advice on here, which was simple. Slow down! Take it easy. Then slow down some more.

Looking forward to your post to say you’ve started! This is a wonderful forum which will help you on your way, cheer you on and offer advice if things don’t go to plan. You can do it! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Well I did it! Thanks for all the encouragement and support on here folks, much appreciated! I started reading the pinned posts but didn't have chance to read it all between work and family but picked up some great advice already.

I was feeling almost sick during the warm up, dreading the first run but took the advice to start steady and really pleased with myself (forgive the smugness, I used to start 10 minute treadmill run at the gym and hated every second of it, always last in cross country and athletics etc at school).

Thanks again and hopefully I'll be reporting back again on Thursday :)
