Weird forces and knotted rope!

Wk 8 run 1 ✅

The usual running through jelly feeling for the first 5mins but then felt like I’d found a comfortable pace. I’d decided that I’d take today really slow and steady and build up to a bit quicker by the end of the week. Really didn’t feel I’d have any energy for a quick burst at the end so off I go, nice and steady.

Only the wind had other ideas, strong blustery gale in my face but haha I’d read Tinytears post yesterday and had listened! No flappy ponytail for me today. No I thought I was being clever and plaited my ponytail and popped a think bobble on the end... brilliant idea 🤦🏽‍♀️ so now instead of being whipped by soft hair I had what felt like a thick rope with a knot in it battering my face and glasses 😂

But I pressed on and Olly Murs and Garth Brooks spurred me on and when the lovely Sarah called 5mins left and suggested I speed up I thought, yes Flower I can do that!

The weird bit though is that when I got home and checked my Adidas app, I was considerably faster for the first km than I was the last 🤷🏻‍♀️ strange indeed but I’ll take it. 😁

I hate wind!! I’ve also had ponytail issues in the past - you did make me laugh 😂

Isn’t it funny how we misjudge pace ? I often think I’ve been running really slowly and in fact been faster- 🤷🏼‍♀️ what’s that about ?!

Well done on getting through, hopefully wind will ease a bit during the week 🤞🏼for your later W8 runs

I hope so too 🤞🏼 although the wind did keep me cool.

Really strange how it felt slow but was fast (I’m being a little free and loose with the term ‘fast’ here 😉) but felt faster when really it was slower 🙄

Strangest bit of all though is that I am still loving running!! Never ever would I have believed that a few months ago ☺️

I suppose I can see how the end of a run might feel faster than it is if you are fatigued and pick up the pace - but when I think I’m starting off slowly to conserve energy I’m not! I suppose we might become better judges with more experience.

🤣yes speed is all relative- I’m talking about degrees of 🐢!

I’m enjoying it too which is something I never thought I would say. Not every day as I’m doing it ( today for example was a slog) but I love how I feel after and how it’s helping me to lose a few pounds along the way. Yep all in all this running ( bimbling) malarkey is not too shabby!

OMG! just laughed out loud reading this!... So funny!.. so well written!... but let's get the congratulations out the way!..woohoo!.. you did it lady!! So chuffed for you!...almost makes the hair drama's worthwhile doesn't it :-)

I've done that too- putting a spurt on at the end only to find it wasn't really a spurt after all!.. BUT the important thing is... we did it!.. Yayyyy!

Run 2 now!... I'm researching hair ideas as I type!.... I did think a cap with my hair pulled through the back bit!... That way its not going anywhere and will(or should) just sit where i put it! :-)

What you think?

Jane, that's what I do. It mostly stays put unless a big gust of wind catches it!

That’s sorted then - Sounds like a plan 👌

A cap? Oh jeez that sounds like one more thing to worry about 😂

firstly I look ridiculous in hats and I really don’t need anything else to help with that and secondly, knowing my luck the wind would blow the hat off and I’d end up chasing it down the path 🙈

I’m thinking some sort of bun or French plait might be the answer but you go with a cap and let me know how you get on 😜

I plait mine in two french plaits which keeps it off my face. What I have found though since my *best purchase ever* sweaty Betty headband is that it keeps it right off my face even with a ponytail- result! Also and this is 🤢I can’t believe how heavy it is with sweat when I take it off,so it does the job too!

I wear a headband too, it definitely helps.

In the cooler weather I wear a ponytail beanie (Trailhead fleece) from Amazon, best bit of kit I have bought 👌

A ponytail beanie? Will look into that! Loving this running malarkey, learning new things everyday 👍

I also have a couple of Trailhead microfleece ponytail headbands it's like a disease!🤣🤣

I tell myself they are safety devices as they have some reflective bits!

Just had a quick look on Amazon. I feel another purchase coming on 🙈

I’m definitely infected! Spent a fortune on gear in the last week or so (but if my husband asks, they were all in the sale ok? Be cool!)

Oh no what have you done Jell- I’m in enough trouble with all my purchases last week ( sale = law)

I thought running was going to be a cheap alternative to the gym ...😱

It is bad, let's not even get into leggings, capris, shorts.....😬

SweatyHettieGraduate in reply to Jell6

OK guys you know the drill.. no not new got them ages ago just haven’t worn them yet / they were a bargain/ they are essential/ and the best from Jell it’s for safety ( anything with a tiny bit of reflective material!) 😜

I know, so grim!! But they do say you lose most of your heat through your head, so that just goes to prove it. I’m tempted to weigh it so see just how heavy it is... or maybe not ! 🤢

😂😂😂. Love this! Well done on your run firstly and secondly I am tempted to cut my hair off so annoying when I’m running! I put it into a high bun today to run right on the top of my head but half way through it was bobbling all over the shop! I have a hygge band (well I actually have a few) which when it’s been colder and windy it keeps my ears warm, my ear buds in and my fringe off my face! Hurrah
